Man, there's a world of difference between villabolo and beks. One can formulate rational responses to opponents while apparently operating under the assumption that they are neither dishonest nor stupid and one, well, can't.

1 - The Air Temp Anomaly map also shows significantly lower temperatures over North America, Russia, and Northern Europe. It's only supportive evidence if one starts with the assumption that temps that are still well-below freezing matter, and that temperature anomalies are in some way related to increased CO2 levels.
2 - The UAH chart shows a minor anomaly, about one-fifth of a degree. That sort of change, much like the increase of one part per million that has occured in the pct of CO2 in the atmosphere, isn't anywhere near enough to effect anything. Further, as the chart itself shows, there have been significant anomalies that have nothing to do with human causes.
3 - Regressions in science have the same problem as regressions in the social sciences - they show past trends, but don't show anything about the future unless one operates with a supposition that the future will be like the past, which is frequently untrue.
Look at the very end of the graph. You'll notice a fairly precipitous drop in temperatures, about one-fifth of a degree in one year. If you compare that drop with the regression line, it took from 1989 to 2007 for the temperature to increase by the same amount.
4 - You rightfully mock skeptics for taking isolated portions of climate history and portraying it as the whole. Meanwhile, we seem to have to presume that there was no climate before 1979, as that's when our similiarly isolated data starts. ;-) -

Leavingwt,
With all due respect, I think you're dead wrong. There are plenty of vulnerable people now, but how many of them are converting? I know people are converting in developing nations, but I think that has a lot more to do with the fact that the Witnesses and other "evangelical" religions are a new phenomenon there, and also because of lack of information about them.

NWT: "Most accurate translation" -Who says?
by Leto ini remember when i was a witless, i spouted the words "it's the most accurate translation".... i'm sure you did too :).
i've been researching the topic of just how badly the nwt is mistranslated.
i keep finding more and more examples of blatant mutilation of scriptures in the nwt.. for the record, i love to know just where are they finding these "scholars" to prop up their assertions that their joke of a bible is the "most accurate"?

If he teaches greek at a university, as the site to which you linked asserts, then he does have training in a biblical language.

Villabolo, where is that image from? Is it a compilation of data from weather stations, or from satelites? Satelite data tends to be much more accurate because there aren't the extensive coverage problems that one finds with weather stations.
And what does any of what you said have to do with CO2 in the atmosphere? Are we to simultaneously assume that a) CO2 is unable to diffuse at some relatively even level throughout the entire atmosphere in the same way that any soluble compound will do in a fluid, and b) that even though it is unable to diffuse throughout the atmosphere, it somehow travels very, very far from its source of origin?
And even then, of what relevance is the fact that the arctic is "warmer than normal"? The artic temps are still WELL below the freezing point of water...

Is there a Logical explanation for the spooky things happening at my daughter, Ali's house?!?!!!!
by coffee_black inok.... looking for some logical explainations.... my daughter, ali, who i've been posting about on the forum...who has developed congestive heart failure.... has had some spooky experiences lately in her house.
here are a few of the things that happened:.
about a month ago, ali and her son david, heard noises from the attic above ali's bedroom...that sounded like something was being dragged across the attic floor.

LC,
In that case, the solution is not to match their dogmatical douchebaggery but to do what they can't do - operate without preconceptions and prejudices, and with the belief that you just might be wrong.

What is it with the Dawkinites always have to be such sarcastic dinkers? Are y'all really arrogant enough to believe that the only reason someone could possibly disagree with you is because that person is stupid and/or nuts?

I think the best thing to do in cases like these is to try to come to an understanding with whatever is there.
Personal story - for a time as a child, I lived in an EXTREMELY creepy house. Everyone who walked inside said that the house felt like a mausoleum or tomb. And it was a fairly new house, not old at all. When it was just me and the parent I was living with, you could REALLY feel it. We both constantly felt like something was watching us, and my sister felt it to when she stayed there on weekends. One night, and mind you, this was just me and my dad, I was asleep on the sofa and woke up to a SCREAMING fight. I wasn't hallucinating or dreaming it. I was actually woken by the noise of a man and a woman shouting curse words at each other and for all the world, it sounded like it was coming from about three feet in front of me, even though there was no-one there. That's when I first decided that there are beings/forces/entergies other than us.
Later in life, I learned about Renaissance-era magic and began to practice it (the Washtowel will never tell you that the Renaissance-era magicians called up angels in the name of YHWH, but anyways.) What I found was an effective and reliable system for contacting beings/entities/intelligences ("angels") that embody holiness, purity, courage, love, etc, as well as "lower" beings that could be worked with to achieve more concrete results.
Does that make me sounds completely off my rocker? Possibly, but I can't say that I'm concerned. A skeptic can confront me and say that it's all horrible, unscientific balderdash, but I have my proof (both in terms of interacting with these beings that represent exalted states of consciousness that are utterly outside of ordinary life, and in terms of having concrete desires fulfilled in exactly the way I ask) and I believe that any person who makes an honest investigation can have similar, or better, results. So that's where I'm coming from.
In my opinion, if it's not all a lot of coincidences, the WORST thing in the world is to ignore what's going on.
