Do You Really Care About the People On Here?
by snowbird inhow they're feeling, coping?.

thanks to those who respond.. syl.

It's not hard for me to start caring about people on this board who've shared their stories, troubles, doubts, etc. Frankly, I stopped lurking and joined because I cared what happened to SweetbabyCheezits. Now that I have seen the stories of others, yes, I care. I have spent many hours now reading old posts, going back to their stories to understand better. It was the advice given to me on my first post that got me through the first rough days of mentally coming to grips with the fact that I no longer believed everything the organization told me. I am very grateful to so many of you, the private PM's. Yes, I think its easy to care about the people on this board. You can't help caring.

Can I request my own Disfellowshiping?
by Joshnaz injust want to know, and how to do it.
i've been out of the religion for 12 years now and just want a reason for my parents to not talk to me, seeing how they don't anyhow i don't think it'll hurt any..

Why don't you just let this go for a month and see how you feel? You are very upset right now I think. Your parents have just done something very cruel.

why do you want to burn bridges when you have a hugely successful "fade". I only hope I could join those ranks! But you can disassociate if you really feel you need to. what has happened that this issue is coming up right now?

Undercover is right. Be careful. You will be up on Apostacy charges before you know it if you push this too fast and too hard.

Still Stuck Inside: Coping by Seeing the Cult Personality as a Child
by WalkTall inas i've mentioned on the board before, i am still inside (for now) hopefully until i can get my children to start thinking more on their own.
one way i have been coping with all the ridiculous nonsense around me is to see and treat the cult personality as the child it is.
realizing that has helped me to understand how intelligent, articulate people remain as cult members.

I think you are quite right. That is it exactly. No questions. Mom is always good, always smart, can do anything, always right. She has your best interests at heart, doesn't she.

The Society, having lost its younger generation, now appears to be doing its darndest to lose the older ones as well
by sir82 infrom all the "annual general meeting" notes floating around, one quotation stands out in particular:.
many older ones already are telling the younger ones how they regretted not getting an education, pursuing a lucrative career, saving up money or not having a retirement plan.
the sad truth is that such ones are like the murmurers of israel when coming out of egypt.. what does this remark tell us?.

That is how I feel. Six decades with the organization, and all I've done is continue to bring all my children and grandchildren into this life. That makes me feel awful. Now the trick is to get them out while they are still young enough to enjoy the rest of their lives.

I think you need to be "depressed" because you have been "stumbled". Depression is a good excuse to miss some of the meetings. "You just can't be with people" because you mentally can't cope right now. When she asked what has "stumbled" you, then pick something that difficult to argue about. Take the blood issue, for example---but DON'T tell her how you really feel. Ask questions. Tell her you are confused over the fact that we can take "fractions" and explain how "fractions" you think, is blood. Tell her this( I am using blood, but whatever you think is something she will question) is "stumbling you". Be patient, see a doctor, get a prescription, tell her it isn't helping. Don't take the medicine. or maybe do if this will help. Then work subtly, slowly....After all, your children are at stake. I don't mean to throw you on a guilt trip, but you can't let your strong feelings to overtake you and you lose the opportunity to make a difference in their lives. They will be poisoned regarding you if you leave under these circumstances. I know from experience that being "depressed" and "stumbled" is very effective with your loved ones as well as the congregation. You will get at least a little sympathy from both. You won't be blamed. We gets talks from the platform, articles in the watchtower, etc. Look up the Awake article on "Mood Disorders" on the WT cd, and give it to your wife. Tell her you haven't felt safe enough to talk about it. This will buy you a lot of time, Brother Dan, and keep the pressure off you, and the level of animosity down.
Just my humble opinion, but you mustn't subsitute that for your own. Only YOU know and understand your situation.
