Weak JW Commits Suicide, Elders Reluctantly Have a Memorial at the Kingdom Hall
by OnTheWayOut inso my mother calls me on thanksgiving thursday and tells me about a fellow in her kh that i knew quite well.
he grew a beard years ago and stopped field recruiting, but kept going to the kh several times a month as his wife was still active.
the elders never really tried to show concern for his depression, but always bugged him about the beard.

WItnessing work in Hong Kong
by Listener ini was in hong kong recently, which is a lovely country but very much a big city where people live differently because of it.
on one of our days we were walking to the ferry through a covered walkway and there were heaps of people handing out all sorts of leaflets to passerbys, you couldn't walk 10 steps without someone trying to give you their leaflet.
i was surprised when we came across about half a dozen witnesses trying to hand out magazines.

We do this kind of witnessing quite frequently here. No one really cares, or even asks for donations. We all gave generously for the publications at the hall. Don't worry. The Watchtower is getting theirs.

It is always so encouraging to me to see that others who have served for many years have come to question whether or not the society is "god's chosen channel of communication". Thank you for sharing, and welcome.

Facebook search "Charles Manson" -- now he thinks I'm a friend?
by FatFreek 2005 inno, i haven't really done that one but i've thought of searching for several acquaintances from kingdom halls years ago but not if they become aware that i've looked them up.
i don't want facebook to announce to these folks that "fatfreek wants to be your friend".
i don't want to appear to be boot licking -- i'm simply curious.. as far as i know i'm as anonymous as one can be on facebook but that may be my naivette showing through.. what say you facebookers?.

Is It Possible to Know Who Views Your Profile on Facebook?
Would you like to know who views your Facebook profile? If the answer is yes, then I have bad news for you. This action cannot be done because Facebook doesn’t allow it.
Applications that claim to be able to do this don’t work because Facebook makes it technically impossible for them to do it.
This is the statement in which Facebook address this issue on its Help Center page:
“ Can I know who’s viewing my profile or how often it’s being viewed?
No, Facebook does not provide a functionality that enables you to track who is viewing your profile, or parts of your profile, such as your photos. Third party applications also cannot provide this functionality. Applications that claim to give you this ability will be removed from Facebook for violating policy. You can report applications that provide untrustworthy experiences by clicking the "Report Application" at the bottom of the application’s About page, or by clicking "Report" at the bottom of any canvas page within the application. ”
On one hand this means that you can’t know who is looking at your profile, but on the other one, this also means that you can snoop without worrying about being discovered. -

As far as I know, no one can tell if you have looked for them, although I have heard of some new application called"is someone looking for you?" that might be a problem.
Anybody else know about this application?

If society UPHELD the pagan origins of umbrellas would the R and F obey?
by Botzwana inif the society said that umbrellas were indeed pagan, because their origins are, and you would be dfed if you used one do you think the rank and file would obey?
or do you think that would push them over the edge?
i can just see the wealthy witness woman you know, the real pretentious ones not going out when it rains etc..

I think you should do a great deal more investigation into the organization before you decide on such a serious step as baptism. Making a vow of that nature shouldn't be made without all the facts. If your doctor told you that you had a serious disease, would you simply take his instructions, or would you take the time to do a little research to find out more about the disease, and your treatment options? Would you take medicine that you had not even read the insert for?
It is only the foolish who blindly follow. I know. I'm one who did.
Remember, it's like a gang. Blood in, blood out.

1914? Pyramid? No Way. then I die. Will i still have the hope of Resurection?
by Smoky induring russell's time, when preaching door to door, if a person learn the truth, had a bible study, then learned and did not agree with the pyramid relationship to 1914, and did not become a jw subsuquently.
when the person dies.
does he have a hope for resurection, after rejecting the current truth at the time?.

I don't believe there was a door to door ministry then in the same way as now. Not so much as the later "separating the sheep and the goats" thing that was later practiced.
Besides, back then Rusell was preaching a more or less universal salvation. What you did may mean the difference between being a consecrated saint or one of the heavenly class (not quite of that caliber) or even an earthly survivor. But virtually everyone was getting the second chance in one way or another. Even Adam and Eve.

Worried about you, Brotherdan
by tec ini don't know if you lurk here (my guess would be that you do check in every once in a while), but you haven't done anything on your blog in almost a month, and you haven't been here in just as long.
i hope you're doing okay.
i hope you're handling the org, your wife, your children... and your own spirituality and sanity.
