Our Stories and Why They Matter
by Farkel instories are perhaps the most important thing we can contribute to others in our short life on planet earth.. mind you, i am not saying that stories are the most important things in our lives, because they are not.
the most important things in our lives are experiences, which are moment-by-moment things.
the best we can do with our own experiences is to tell stories about them, which will never convey the actual living of them.

What you say is true, Farkel. Every bit of human wisdom, and every part of human experience, is a gift to the rest of mankind. Whether it is information that advances technology, a new idea, or just a bit of folksy humor a la Mark Twain, we take from it something that we need and want. I enjoy reading your posts, and although I am new to the board, I will say that it doesn't take years of being here to begin to form opinions as to the relative worth and the amount of thought that a poster brings to this board. Although I hope I never fall by the sword to those here with rapier wit, it is a privilege to share this forum with them. And Farkel, you add very meaningful ideas. Thank you.

Something's been on my mind...
by Vidiot in..., and while i usually contribute in a thread that's already been created, i thought this particular topic might warrant it's own.. like many of you, on friday i was persusing the "concerned elder speaks" thread about higher-ed and the gb's ross/rachel relationship with it, and a couple of posts caught my eye:.
room 215 - "that's it, boys; alienate the remaining elders, drive them to resign and exacerbate the shortage already underway.".
baltar447 - "it's like they want fewer elders and servants.".

I really don't think the organization is about to self-destruct. I never looked at ANY information that I thought even MIGHT contain negative statements about "the truth", and I dressed conservatively, saw only pg13 movies, avoided anything connected with violence, etc.etc.etc. There was really no way the internet influences many JW's.....

How can I support your search for the truth about The Truth?
by Lion Cask inif you are an active but curious jehovah's witness, this question is to you.
comments from others welcome.. i have an image of you in my mind.
i see you secluded in your room with the door closed, speakers off or on low so you can hear the footsteps of anyone approaching, and you are quietly venturing into forbidden places.

Glad you posted this. When I began lurking on this site there were a couple of people who said things and referred to God in what I considered such a disrepectful way that I almost didn't come back. If I were not so immediately emotionally engaged in SweetbabyCheezits JC hearing, I don't think I would have.
It scares off people to hear talk about "Jehoober" "The Washrag" and so on. It's a little like hearing your somewhat estranged mother being made fun of and referred to by vile names. Yeah, you may be mad at her, you may think she has done wrong, you may even be considering limiting contact with her, but you will be defensive at name calling.
It is the same principle as when you friend complains about their spouse. They can say whatever bad things, but you had better not join in!
I realize and respect the right of free speech, and recognize that there are very many here who have been badly hurt by Watchtower policies. I also realize that the sole purpose of this forum is not to help Witnesses come out of the organization, but to have a place to talk freely about your own thoughts. I am only agreeing that for active and unsure Witnesses who come here to test the waters, we can, as a group, sometimes appear only angry and disrespectful.
Hey, it's only my opinion.

If you could live in, and through, one time period in human history...
by sabastious in...what would it be and why?.

It would be now, absolutely. Hmmm, good plumbing and sewers, electric lights, television, satellite, MICROWAVE OVENS!, and central heating and airconditioning. Automobiles, airplanes, condos on the beach!, cellphones, interstate highways, national parks, musuems, oh, could I go on and on. Never in any time in history would I have the opportunity to live at this comfort level. Henry II had straw on the floor in a drafty castle. I live better than his queen!
