i've been out for 11 years and working on an assignment of what jw teens are into now, stuff that's seen as borderline where they can participate, but only to an extent.. an example pre-internet: we could skateboard, but couldn't be punk rock, so we hung out with the punk rockers at skate ramps and our parents didn't know.. what are the jws saying regarding:.

internet porn.
Moms:
facebook (she's on it too)
internet porn (oh god no!)
Video games ok (except Grand Theft Auto which the CO specifically named)
Sports, skateboards, x-games ok (but not miss meetings or FS of course)
Music (whatever, just don't let us listen to the lyrics)
Pretty much the same with the dads, except for internet porn (keep it in your room,son)
i have just found this out and this is why my family are suddenly 100% shunning me.
it won't get me to go back to the cult, but it will result in a very lonley old man not seeing his 4 grandkids ever again.

I really think they are speaking of those "disassociated" from the WT. Otherwise, this would be all over the place and I would have heard (I think) from friends who were at the meeting. I haven't seen them in a couple of months, but I am sure it would be all over the hall for something like this to have been said regarding the merely "inactive".
every wt magazine has at least one article that asks this question at the end of one of the study articles.
sometimes these questions are in the books such as this week's book study.
they spiced it up a little bit for this book study though.
I have already put away my bible and WT by then, I already have the songbook opened to the song.
Rarely did I comment. What can you say when it's been read out loud already? I never wanted to sit there and be a parrot. If I had something interesting slightly off the beaten path to contribute, I'd comment.

beyond saying there are some interesting insights into the society's position on new light, i will withhold comment until i get some feedback from the board.. the bible itself says: do not interpretations belong to god?

yes since i left the jws almost twenty years ago i can honestly say i have lived my life.. when i eventually left the death by bordem cult ... i had nothing, a loveless marraige i only stayed in because of the jws, no friends, no home to call my own, in debt, i had a wife who was so depressed she shooped to make herself happy.
Since I thought I was happy, and since I felt happy, then I guess I would still feel that way. After all, it wasn't until the "doubts" surfaced in the past couple of years that I became unhappy. Plus, I miss what I felt was the sure hope of everlasting life. It was a beautiful dream and the hardes thing for me to give up. I am not sure I am over that part yet...

Oh yes, I always hated long prayers. We just had a meeting, can't you just say thanks?
I don't think that married people should flirt. If you wouldn't do something in front of your spouse, then don't do it behind their back. As far as single people go..Have fun!

Misery, I have to go along with the opinions about the Governing Body for sure, and probably the heavies in Bethel. As to ordinary Bethelites, I know several who were sent home during this "downsizing" after spending about twenty years or so. They were young when they went in, they had little or not money, and came home with nothing but doubts about how Jehovah could no longer want them. They had no money to start over, and members of the congregation helped them out a few months til they got settled. They have no skills useful outside the org, and are all working for little more than minimum wage. In my opinion, their financial life is in ruins.

being a lurker for quite some months, i convinced myself it is time to give my own 2 pence from time to time.
i am living in europe and i am still 'in', although by now i must be counted as an inactive jw.

for those of us who remember it first hand, the 1975 fiasco is a strong indicator that the watchtower bible and tract society is not what it represents itself to be.
in the late 1970's, after several years of unprecedented growth, the wtbts experienced an exodus of disallusioned thousands which many attribute to the failed 1975 prophesy (see www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/1975.php for details).
the wtbts hierarchy subsequently played down the great disappointment of 1975, blamed its rank and file for having precipitated it, and has successfully swept it under the carpet.
