My apologies to you Inkie and Aguest. I realize that I made light of your remarks. Sometimes in throwing off the old religion, I do make light of the faith that remains for some. Not everyone throws out the baby with the bathwater. Peace to you both.

Awake 2010 claims Canadian University can't find young men who haven't seen Porn....Witnesses?
by Witness 007 ini read this and had a good laugh!!
awake 2010 p.13 "canadian researchers want to find out the effects of pornography on men.
- "we started our research seeking men in their twenties who had never consumed pornography, but we couldn't find any.

I think Witnesses watch a lot of porn. They don't have a lot of sex, but they watch a lot of it.

Don't know how to leave: FADE or DA letter?
by porfiada inhi folks.
i wondered if any of you ex elders can help me to figure out what my status is and therefore how to log out from the borg.
i was baptized at 15, faded at 18. never heard anything from the elders after their first visit, which wasn't about a big deal and had no conclusion.

Boy, if that were my situation, I'd DA and write a really good letter to the elders. Who knows, you might plant a seed. The only reason to fade is to maintain ties with family members. Since that's not an issue for you, and you don't want to be DF'd, I'd do it.

Was this ever a good religion to be in?
by whatistruth inwhere sincerity, mercy, love predominated the witnesses at one time?
or has it always been like it is today, corrupt, hypocritical, abuse of power, unloving?
just curious if it started out with good intentions and then like anything else as time goes on and it becomes too big for unqualified people to handle it, it all goes bad..

Whether there was some good in it, it was crazy from the beginning. But at least at first, however crazy it was, you weren't disfellowshipped for not believing it all. That changed.

I told my daughter I was leaving "the truth" this weekend.
by whathappened inlast week, i told you i was going to tell my daughter that i was leaving the truth this weekend and you all gave me sound advice.
but, i cannot keep a secret this heavy from the person i love most on this earth, my only daughter, who is beautiful inside and out.. well, i have always had an open and honest relationship with my daughter, and i guess it paid off.
this weekend i visited my daughter (who lives in another state) and i told her i was leaving "the truth.

"Whathappened" is a wonderful mother and sister. It said a lot about her and the love we have that she was just as quick as her daughter to assure me that she wouldn't shun me. It was only a couple of weeks later that she opened the discussion again, and pretty much started down the path to the new "truth". I am so lucky to have her as my sister. Hopefully my niece and her husband wil come out. I have a pretty good feeling about her daughter, she is very smart, well educated, and open minded. She and her husband both have university degrees, and they are very keen on their child attending a university. The new things about higher education will not go down well with them. "Whathappened" also mentioned the new policy on higher education I think.
Her daughter will come out I think. Her son-in-law is a good prospect as well. His father is not "in the truth" and neither is his only sibling. His mother is a casual JW most of the time. But, his friends are all in, and he has been raised that way. None-the-less, he doesn't have so much to sacrifice should my neice come out. It is definately a matter of timing and extreme tact. I am hopeful.

G'day from Oz - My Story
by Gemmel inhi, i've been lurking for a few days reading the site, interesting stuff ;).
i've been out of the org for 23 years, i was 27 i left an agnostic and became an atheist many years ago.
i knew i was going to leave for 7 years before i did but had stayed in because i didn't want to hurt my family, it hadn't occurred to me that they might shun me.

It's terrible the way the organization makes families break up like this. I am so sorry.

9 months into my fade... how things are looking so far...
by gutted inso for those that care or are in a similar situation just wanted to give an update how things are on my end as far as fading 9 months in.. april of last year i found out the truth about the truth, took one night of googling and the walls came tumbling down.
then i read read crisis of conscience, combatting cult mind control, first part of in search of christian freedom and eventually captives of a concept.
my last ever "meeting" was the 3 day convention in july of last year i attended with my family, i posted about it and just how utterly frustrating it was.

Do JWs still try to get into locked security apartments to leave tracts?
by VM44 init was once a very common practice of jws when distributing "special" tracts (the tractwork) that if they encountered a locked security apartment they would wait for someone to exit or leave, and then enter, or they would get one resident to let them in, and then they would leave the tract at every apartment door within the complex.. isn't that trespassing?.
do the jws still do this?.

Yes. Absolutely.

Do you miss "dressing up" for the meetings?
by dozy ini was thinking about this the other day when doing a bit of tidying up of my wardrobe.
all the kh suits are now pushed to the back of the wardrobe and i am seriously thinking about a visit to the charity shop to get rid of most of them.. for me one of the (few) enjoyable aspects of being a jw was getting dressed up.
my secular work very rarely involves putting on a dress suit & tie so i miss getting dressed up - smart suit , tie , shiny shoes , slapping on the aftershave.

No, I still find plenty of occasions for dressing up. I prefer be REALLY dressed up rather than the business type clothing I had to wear to the meetings. I love shoes, purses, jewelry etc. I always felt sorry for sisters at the assemblies who were so desperate for an occasion to dress up that they overdressed for the occasion. Some of them were practically in sequins but most of them look like Amway dealers.
