Excellent! It looks like things really got screwed up about the time I was born in, the '50s. And went down hill from there.

after 40 years I guess I am being shunned
by Giordano inwell thanks to this site i have come to realize i am being shunned........i think.
i find this really funny because my wife and i were never df or da, and we walked out in the late 1960's.
and no one in the family ever shunned us.. without making too much out of it my niece has not invited us to visit and meet our new nephew.

Yes...the society changes policy on shunning fairly frequently (every 3-5 years or so). I too never understood my family's schizophrenic attitude towards me until I found this site. Now I can anticipate a shift before my parents even know they are going to treat me differently. Thanks, JWN!

What blows me away is the difference in technology between then and now and the quality of music. Back in the sixties acts could flounder in obscurity for years with no commercial success (Bob Seger is a good example). You had to be picked up a major label (which robbed most of the greats blind). Today you can set up a studio in your house, market yourself, self-publish and sell your product for under a thousand. You would think the airwaves would be brimming with great songs. I've got XM and Sirius and spend most of the time listening to oldies. Back in the sixties I didn't listen to music from the twenties and neither did my parents or anyone else I knew. Just my 2 cents.
Long live, Morrison.

Attention Lurkers- Consider the effectiveness of your lifesaving work
by stuckinamovement inhypothetical scenario.
you are a city manager in a major metropolitan city with a population of 3,000,000.. .
if the governing body was truly convinced themselves of the impending disaster and the fact that the end is imminent would they not focus their efforts in spreading the message through effective means such as telephone, television, internet, social networks etc?

"How Awful This Place Can Be!" Life at Bethel by Keith Casarona
by Dogpatch inremember the video of all the nice dudes who were on the governing body in the 70s?
(here's a refresher).. well this is what their lives were really like - the same as when i was there.
by the time it got to the end, all was left was chicken backs.

Thanks, Randy!
I fully intended to go to Bethel (life's dream). Went there for the tour in '74. I could sense some of the things you talk about even though the tour guides tried to make it look all shiny and bright. I remember the faces on the people strapped to some of the machines you mention. I could tell I would hate it (those poor bastards were trapped as far as I could tell). Being a small town boy I was very enamored with NYC itself. I quickly learned that Watchtower wages (what was it....$13/mo then?) wouldn't allow for much night life. I'm sure glad I went to kick the tires first. It's really close to being shanghaied if you just sign up without going to see the reality first.
