I remember a time, post '75 when a lot of things became a "matter of conscience". I was 18 and very much speaking my mind. The Watchtower conducter asked the question and I was the ONLY one with a hand up. He wouldn't call on me so I gave him the bleeping answer without the aid of a mic. Was on my way to the little room in the basement shortly thereafter.

Commenting At The Meetings---Did You Enjoy It?
by minimus inwas that important for you?
most people, i believe, forced themselves to give an answer.
i knew many elders and servants over the years being counseled because they rarely answered.. funny thing....my mom who is 88 cries if she doesn't give a comment.

I've been out for 20+ years so I'm a little out date. I've been df'd, reinstated and finally disassociated. My parents and siblings are still in. I only go to KH's for funerals. I am greeted at the KH with smiles, handshakes and occasional hugs. My family treats me like I'm family, publicly. I've seen several threads (that I didn't want to hijiack) that looked like shunning is quite more severe. Is this regional or just another organizational change?

Expect more Crazy as JW.ORG trims the fat and fills the coffers.
by donuthole inwhen rutherford assumed the presidency of the watchtower society he instituted series of sweeping changes to the teachings and practices of the bible students.
some of these changes were at complete odds with what had been taught previously.
a key example was the elevation of the watchtower society as "god's visible organization on earth".

About 10 years ago I brought over a computer to my parents and hooked them up on the internet. It was like I gave them a Ouija board. The next time I came back the computer was a door stop. Now they both have laptops and are on the internet. They told me they had to because most everything JW is either on-line or will be.

Born in. Baptized 1971. DF'd 1980. Re-instated 1984 . DA'd 1993 and never looked back. I still associate with my family. I love this site because I know how my family is going to treat me months before they know how they are supposed to treat me.

Belize is awesome. In just a few days I snorkled with sharks and sea turtles on the second largest coral reef in the world, hand fed howler monkeys, climbed massive Mayan ruins, went cave rafting, ziplined through a rain forest. And then we stopped and had a blast in wonderful bars and beach eateries. But the main attraction was the people. Incredible, sometimes terrifyingly fun experience.

One thing about this site that bothers me
by keyser soze inthe constant references to 'window washers' as something derogatory.. i understand the context of it-that most jws are uneducated, and unqualified to do much more.
but sometimes the references seem snobbish, almost mean-spirited.
one poster, on another thread, essentially referred to window washers as 'losers'.

As I remember the window washer/janitor craze happened in the pre-75 days. I started a business in it when I was a teenager ~73-74. I made great money at it and continued til 79. My presiding overseer father and pioneer mother thought it was a shame for me to pursue this career and talked me into going to college (engineering). It took me many, many years to match my ww/j business income (and I enjoyed my ww/j business much more). Hanging on the side of a skyscraper with the wind in your hair and a squeegee in your hand rules!

Excellent! It looks like things really got screwed up about the time I was born in, the '50s. And went down hill from there.

after 40 years I guess I am being shunned
by Giordano inwell thanks to this site i have come to realize i am being shunned........i think.
i find this really funny because my wife and i were never df or da, and we walked out in the late 1960's.
and no one in the family ever shunned us.. without making too much out of it my niece has not invited us to visit and meet our new nephew.

Yes...the society changes policy on shunning fairly frequently (every 3-5 years or so). I too never understood my family's schizophrenic attitude towards me until I found this site. Now I can anticipate a shift before my parents even know they are going to treat me differently. Thanks, JWN!
