IS THE GOVERNING BODY NOW THE FAITHFUL AND DISCREET SLAVE?
by Vanderhoven7 in.
i know the anointed never get consulted.
but is it true that the governing body has modified the definition of the faithful and discreet slave to exclusively apply to themselves and to not include the thousands of other anointed..

I'll get a reference from the WT with the exact quote, unless someone else has it and can post it first.....

They haven't officially said "The Governing Body is the Faithful and Discreet Slave," But they have said "The Faithful and Discreet Slave, represented by the Governing Body........" This can be taken one of two ways. First, the GB could just "represent" the F&DS much the same way an elected congressman or parlaimentarian represents their constituents. Secondly, they could be easing into a change that the F&DS of the Bible is the modern day Governing Body. They have yet to clarify what they mean by this. Are they saying they represent the individual members of the F&DS, or are they saying they are the modern day F&DS that Jesus mentioned. I guess we have to wait on their clarification.

Was this ever a good religion to be in?
by whatistruth inwhere sincerity, mercy, love predominated the witnesses at one time?
or has it always been like it is today, corrupt, hypocritical, abuse of power, unloving?
just curious if it started out with good intentions and then like anything else as time goes on and it becomes too big for unqualified people to handle it, it all goes bad..

I have to agree w/ Bro Dan. I was raised as a JW and only left a few years ago. When I was a child, I remember the older ones in the congregation who were very adamant about preaching, not about what you can or can't do, but about how God's Kingdom is the only solution to mankind's problems. It was a little simpler back then (in the late '70's and early 80's) at least as I remember it. As I got older and more involved, I learned that listening to the GB was essential to salvation. I also learned that, and this is a direct quote: "If the society tells us to plant our cabbage upside down, we plant our cabbage upside down!" I can't believe it took me another 10 years to get out after hearing that. That being said, I have always said that I don't discourage my son who is 17 and baptized from being a JW because I view it as a protection. I know for a fact that being a witness throughout my teen years kept me out of a lot of trouble that I know I would have gotten into.

Um, well, I kind of don't have the time to invest in reading all of that page.......I'm just going to take your word for it, dozy. And I'm going to use my bible trained judgement and get ready for work in the morning like normal. But tell this Gordon dude I said "Thanks for the heads up!" LOL

Only the Governing Body is the FDS
by Listener ini hadn't noticed this before but the governing body is actually saying that they only are the faithful & discreet slave.. watchtower 2009 6/15 para 18 .
similarly, today a limited number of anointed men have the responsibility of representing the slave class.
they make up the governing body of jehovahs witnesses.

Has anyone had an in-depth discussion with an active, believing JW about this? It is a huge conundrum for the GB. If they are the FDS along with the other members of the remnant, they should seek input from the other members of the FDS......If they feel they don't need to get input, they are essentially saying they are modern day apostles and therefore what they say must be inspired by God, since this would mean God is using only them to feed the "domestics." I brought this up to my JW mom and she said I'd have to ask my brother since he knows more about that kind of thing than she does, she just knows it's the truth and that's all she needs. The problem is my brother won't talk to me about much at all let alone ANYTHING that has to do with religion.

Ties between Society and local KH
by Band on the Run ini was wondering how the witnesses tend to not have much education.
it takes skill to administer the dictates of the brooklyn centered society down to the local kingdom hall level.
other religions do this but they have a professional clergy class with old school networking.

CO's and DO's are able to get money from the Witnesses in the congregations they serve. I used to have a roommate who became a CO. He used to tell me how generous the bros were.
