I love the way they treat elders and pioneers as special.......Did Jesus ever hold meetings with just a select few people (With the exception of his meetings with the apostles)......but, are they not allowing annointed sisters to attend if they are not pioneers? What about annointed brothers who aren't elders?
I remember when the JW book came out in about 1993....It was only given to Elders, MS's and Pioneers. My wife and I couldn't get one at the convention, because we weren't able to pioneer. This is one thing that disturbs me and always has.

NEW RUMOR: WT ALLOWS BIRTHDAYS
by J.R.R.Watchtower ini've just read at a spanish forum for ex-jw that the wt has cooked a new light article series about social celebrations, including birthdays and aniversaries.
according to a member of this forum 'in short' the wt will let witnesses to decide by 'their bible trained conscience' either they celebrate birthdays or not.
is this rumor based in some real facts or it's just bullshit?.

I had an elder once tell me (about 15 years ago) that celebrating Birthdays is not a disfellowshipping offense. However, celebrating Xmas is. He said it's because Birthdays are not a form of false worship, but the tradition of xmas is pagan.
He went on to tell me that if one were celebrating birthdays, they would't be a good example in the congregation so would not be used, but they wouldn't be disfellowshipped either.

I know as a practical matter, the debt ceiling has to be raised, but I wouldn't mind seeing us default. Who is it really going to hurt? The Chi-coms? SS and medicare isn't held in bonds.
Bizzy: You said Boehner is a huge fail? The Constitution says that all spending must originate in the Congress. They passed a cut cap and balance bill. Reid killed it in the Senate. Tonight they passed Boehner 3.0. NOw it's on the way to the Senate.
What I don't get is this: Why do you liberals and Democrats believe that it's ok for Reid to pass legislation that is going to get no where in the House, but it's not OK for Boehner to get legislation through the house that's going to get killed in the Senate?
Your double standard is disturbing.

Were You Ever Involved in A Judicial Committee Either As An Elder Or A "Sinner"?
by minimus inhow did it turn out?.
-
drewcoul
I was involved in 2 JC's both as "sinner."
The first, I got "Private Reproof." I never understood the scriptural basis for it because "Private reproof" and "Public reproof" are never found in the scriptures. I was Df'd the 2nd JC.
Disfellowshipping is biblical, but it was not an "organizational" thing, as far as I can understand from reading the scriptures. It was for individuals to not be associating with "anyone called a brother" who was practicing an unchristian lifestyle. It didn't mean don't say "hi" or don't show love, it meant don't treat the person like you would any other Christian.

I remember when I was in my late teens, I went to one of those recording studios they used to have at amusement parks. I paid to sing and have recorded "Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffett. In the last chorus of the song it says "It's my own damn fault."
I had a brother threathen to go to the elders about me singing it because it had a curse word in it. Even though I was raised a JW by my parents, my dad used to say that profanity isn't profane if it's used in the proper way and used to express emotion. He pointed to the Hebrew scriptures and how they referred to "dungy" idols. He said it might as well say "Shitty idols." And he referred to (I think it was) Elijah and when he asked the people worshipping the false god if their god has excrement and had to go to the privy. He said he might as well have said "Did he have to take a shit and go to the bathroom?"
JW's are too critical of music. I remember about 1992 or so when they said that modern music has a sexual rhythm and young people know it, that's why they like it. I don't remember where it was written, or said, but I remember talking about it to an elder who disagreed with it.

Thank you Mouthy for your response. I always enjoy reading your posts. It's nice to hear from you again!!
Your friend,
-Drew
JWFacts- I agree with you that the Christian outlook is far nicer. That is the essence of the Good News, IMO.
NobleHeart- I feel the same way. We were always taught that death is the end, and all you have is "hope" of a resurrection, which in JW speak means you have to hope that you have done enough preaching, enough work for the organization and enough field service time, enough "responsibilities" inthe congregation for Jesus to remember you during the resurrection.
I was always taught that faith was "The assured expectation of things hoped for though not yet beheld" or something like that. It sounds nice, but John has really opened my eyes of what faith really is.
Broken Promises- "93 innings" is a nice way of looking at it. I'm going to use that term!
Snowbird- I do too, I'm going to work on that!
Robbie- You are right, I forgot about that one........You're right he knows the difference. Thank you.
Carla- It's tough to change your viewpoint of death and what it means even for your husband. I still have a hard time with it, but my wife kind of has the same attitude as her G-father. I hope I can develop the same attitude you have!
