yeah, those were the good old days................... along with competitive basketball games.
Those are the only things I miss.
DA CHEECH:
DITTO! We used to play b-ball about twice a month or so with brothers from about 4 or 5 congregations. We'd rent out a gym and everybody paid 2 bucks and winner stayed on the court......I Definitely miss those good times.
Treat night was really something to look forward to. Especially when Sister Matthews would make her no-bake cookies......I don't know what she did to those, but they were the best!

Yeah, I agree with Sweeney......I think it's kind of a win for the WTS. They won their appeal and were granted legal fees from 5/3 bank. The case was remanded back to the lower court to reconsider. We'll have to see if they can get their hands on this deceased brother's money.
This is the type of thing that disgusts me with the WTS.

The seven trumpet blasts of Revelation & the “Millions” campaign.
by transhuman68 inone of the jehovahs witness doctrines that many of us have had trouble believing is that the seven angels trumpet blasts described in revelation applied to events that occurred in the 1920s at seven assemblies held around the world at the time when judge rutherford was the president of the watchtower society.. the revelation climax book (1988) contains this summary on page 173:.
highlights of jehovah's trumpetlike judgment proclamations.
1922 cedar point, ohio: a challenge to christendom's leaders in religion, politics, and big business to justify their failure to bring peace, prosperity, and happiness.

I have wondered about this in the past. I attended a talk by Fred Franz in Indianapolis in 1982 or so when I was just 10 years old. I was able to find a recording of it online, and listened to it again. He mentioned that it was in Indianapolis in "Nineteen hundred and twenty fiiiiive" that the fourth trumpet blast was made, and a bowl was poured onto the sun and it became scorching hot.
It's been 83 years since the last trumpet blast......I wonder if they're going to change this in the near future.
There is virtually no one alive who was alive when these trumpets supposedly blasted. How do they explain this?
Does anyone know if they're planning a revised Revelation Climax book?

Phil Donahue at kingdom hall
by loosie inomg, one of my friends who hasn't removed me from her list eventhough i shoot down all the jw propaganda she sends me, sent me an email about phil donahue visiting a kingdom hall, with pics and all.. they claim he said that jw have done more for human rights during ww2 then any other group in america.. is this true?
has anyone else heard about this?.
i want to send phil the letter where the jw's wrote to hilter to tell them they don't like the jews either.. .

I remember the same as NC. I remember watching him and the few times JW's came up, he was always postitive about them. Especially the flag salute issue.

Why Are So Many Witnesses So Weird?
by minimus ini believe that in every hall there are a number of weird jws.. we had some that were (and still are) 65 year old mama's boys.
they never got married, weren't gay, just weird.. we had old brother stevenson that used to yell at everyone if they didn't accept a book!.
we had our share of weird elders that were always looking into world events and saying this proves bible prophecy--when in fact, it had nothing to do with it!.
-

I don't think there are any more weird JW's than there are in the general population. However, as JW's we had limited contact and association with the general population. We associated with witnesses because we could only associate with witnesses, even though the people we associated with weren't necessarily people we would choose as friends if we could associate with anyone we wanted........
Not sure if that made much sense, but it's my $.02

Overlapping generation segment on the new Circuit Assembly program
by traveb inso there i was at the circuit assembly sunday morning with my eyes glazed over as usual when all of a sudden, bam!
a demo with two brothers talking about the new overlapping generation teaching.
the reason it took me by surprise was because it occured during the second talk of the sunday morning symposium, "sanctify god's name by your speech".

At the end of the demo:
Brother weak: "Thanks brother ******, this makes it clearer. I guess I need to do a little research on my own to really fully understand this"
Brother understanding: "Well good."
Is the society sanctioning JW's researching this subject on their own?

Pre-written prayer at assembly?
by angel.face ini was at the assembly a little while ago.
my baby was acting up during the closing prayer and for the first time i looked up on stage.. it really looked like the brother was reading the prayer.
he had his head turned to one side of the podium where his notes lay.

I've seen it twice. Once at a DC and once at a CA. The one at the CA was obvious because the brother lost his place. As I undrstand it, he got a bit of a chewing out by the assembly overseer.
