To be honest, being a faithful Witness kept me out of a lot of trouble in my teen years. I did absolutely no drugs, and didn't drink. It also helped me to be a good speaker and not afraid of speaking in groups or being intimidated when giving presentations at work. Understanding things like gestures, eye contact, and being clear and using material that fits the theme actually help in the "real world."
On the other hand, I still find myself not fitting in with people who are not Witnesses. My therapist has helped with this immensely.
I also wish I could have played sports and gone to college immediately out of High School. But why would you want to get a job at a restaurant with a "Going out of business" sign in the window? I mean, Armageddon being so close and all.........That was over 20 years ago.

Another Music Topic - Best of Album of the Last 12 months?

I know this is off topic, because this is certainly not from the last twelve months. I came across this rendition of the Rolling Stones song "Dead Flowers" by the late great Townes Van Zandt. I wanted to share it, but instead of resurrecting an old music thread, I thought I'd share it on this one if that's ok.
BTW- I'm with flipper, I have been a Mark Knopfler fan since I've been about 15 years old and first learning to play guitar. I love his new album!

I am not an atheist. I am not a religious person either. I believe, however that there is far too much evidence of a spiritual realm thay we cannot understand (and I don't try to any more).
I think God speaks to everyone in different ways and always has. Some through the Quran, some through the Bible, others through the Torah or others through the words of Buddha.
I no longer feel I have all of the answers, and since leaving the WT, I have found much more enlightenment and peace and relief from anxiety, by realizing I don't need all of the answers.

Moshe- there is plenty of things this prez does that I think is bad for our nation. I believe he is a liar and a socialist idealogue. There are a lot of things to criticize Obama for, but this doesn't seem to be one of those things to me.

My brother died tonight
by poppers injust got word that my youngest brother died of pancreatic cancer.
he was diagnosed in early august.
this has been really tough for me and my family..

My Dad Said He Loved Me

his dad just died and i know there are parts about me that are the exact replica of him and grandpa.
him and gramp had a falling out cause of the jw religion.. anyways, i had the funny feeling that my dad has been looking at things differently lately, but, i know he won't say much cause he's in way too deep at this point.. he came up to me the other night, and said he really loved me.

Flirting with going Vegetarian, anyone of you ever graduate from simply thinking about it?
by Theocratic Sedition init's just a thought right now, but one of those thoughts where i have that itch.
it's that same itch felt before i purchase something major.
i'm just wondering what i might be getting into based upon others experiences in this regard.

I could be vegetarian in the summer for a day or two at a time if it consisted of home grown tomatoes, corn on the cob, and pan fried green beans. besides that, I couldn't do it. Vegetarian diets make me eat more 'cause i get hungry more often.
Anyway, an ex GF of mine was pesco vegetarian, so she would occasionally eat fish. she loved the diet and she stayed healthy.
I could never give up steak, hamburgers, fried chicken, or my favorite: bacon. I guess now that i don't have to worry about surviving Armageddon, I'll never be forced to be a vegetarian.
