it is so strange how once you distance yourself from your kingdom hall and friends, that they find it necesary to discuss and contemplate your departure and put out all kinds of statements that simply are not true.. i am licking my wounds today because some kind of nasty things were said about me to a friend of mine who is df, from her ubber righteous sister.
it was via text, so it was there to read.
the thing i can't figure out is i have nothing to do with this woman.
I was thinking more about this post and decided that it really is worse if you are a JW. If you aren't a JW, normal things in life don't cause you to gossip. Like if you went and saw an R rated movie, or went to a resturant for your birthday to get a free meal, or have a BF/GF that is not a JW, or sex before marriage, or swear, etc. There are so many little JW rules that you can break that give people more to gossip about that a non JW might not care about it.

i just turned 20 years old.
like many i was raised as a jw.
I was scared and uncomfortable around anyone that wasn't a JW due to the constant ragging on how awful and unhappy all world'ies were. Now I'm finding out that non JW's seem pretty normal. That and they are very accepting of you and horrified by the JW religion and how you get treated by your family when leaving. I am really digging these worldly people.

but i was one of those kids that was born into the whole jw thing, and like a good little witness kid i did everything i was supposed to do to please my parents (mainly my mom my dad's an unbeliever).
my mom was very strict with me when it came to everything they taught, no holiday parttys at school, no sports, no worldy friends, i was only supposed to associate with other jw kids (my mom is one of those extremist jws, she says she doesn't judge, but she's a perfect example of one one of those sisters with the holier than thou attitude).

i went to both collage and uni when i was a jw, i got marked and shunned as a result.
it seemed like every week there would be some dig made from the platform about " those that chose higher education" , my so called "freinds" were constandly on at me " why don't you pioneer highdose?!!".
i even had the ciruit overseer denounce me from the platform as being "spirtualy weak" never mind that most of the peers i grew up with had got themselves reproved or disfellowed and that i was the only who had been good!.
My two brothers got a little flack but I never did. I suppose it calmed down for me. I think we were the first in a long time that went to collage and that was at our parents pushing. We never missed meetings and went in FS so I guess that helped. I do feel sorry for all the young ones now with the very anti collage blah blah stuff going on. Though the collage education didn't make me leave the JW's like they seem to be so scared about.

i ask this, because i just got wind that at my hall, we're paying the travel expenses for a bethelite to come and do our memorial talk.
i don't know how much this is going to run us, but i fail to see the practicality of it.
he's not delivering a special memorial outline or anything.
I remember being excited when one would come. I remember hating all the extra people that would show up and make it hard to find seats.

I'm so sorry. There has been a lot of gossip going around about NLW and I. It's hard for me to deal with because I liked having my "good" name. I don't like people thinking ill of me. Especially family members. But I can't do anything about it because no one is talking to me. I think what a lot of people said is spot on with gossip making JW's feel better about themselves and also because they don't have other interests.

my decision to de-program my mind, about a year ago, has been fairly uneventfull, despite a few intense but very real conversations with my wife and parents.. however in the past couple days my father has pretty much made it clear to me that he will put the gb (not god, although they are pretty much viewed the same) before me.
also tonight the inlaws, who have probly gotten whiff of my inactivity and who never get personal, started to give a lecture on the extreme importance of the family worship arrangement so lovingly arranged for us by the fds, and how if we are not taking advantage of this wonderful provision will not be prepared for armagedon.
i swear blood was gushing from biting my tounge.. im starting to sense that consequences are coming for my sin of independent research and study.
sinis - I argee that having my wife out is 95%. Some of our family already knows how we feel and on my side a number of them are actively shunning us already. I'm okay with that and feel like I can move on, but my wife still entertains the idea that she can have a normal relationship with some of her family. The desire not to be DF'd thus limits what we can do. We still feel like we have to sneak around and watch our words around certain people, and can't really decorate the house for a holiday or do other obviously non-JW activities. I know it's a small complaint compared to the circumstances of many on this board, but I think we still have a ways to go before we feel free.

I was never rebellious and easily scandalized at a hint of naughty. Seeing an R movie...OMG. Some one dressed "worldy", and I would be looking down my nose. What a self righteous moron I was. Who knows what my family thinks of me now. Probably rebellious and evil. Oh well, I feel so much better mentally then I ever did before. Besides, the more my family shuns me is having the opposite effect then what they think it is. LOL.
I'm really glad that you are thinking for yourself!!! I wish I had been that person back in my teenage years.

i am a housewife, and no one has knocked on my door to spread the "truth",not even on the weekends.
question, has anyone experienced this... or has the preaching work slowed down?
or are the witnesses less active, zealous?.
Not since the elder police came some months back. I'm scared of knocks on the door now. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a memorial invite but I hope we don't. If anyone in my family tries to personally invite me I plan on having some words.
