I have been out since the early 80's and spent a long time trying to de-program myself. There were quirks about my emotions which I was afraid to tell people, thinking that I was a "head case". It was not until I found this site and read other peoples experences that I realized that I was not alone. I think that a workshop is a great idea. Also the Watch Tower Society is not the only cult out there. Ever talk with an 18 year old Mormon Elder from Utah? Talk about being brain washed!

Well each church has a Bishop chosen from the hierarchy to serve for I believe 5 years? He has people who serve under him. This hierarchy chooses people to do jobs within the church and hold each position for a year or longer if needed. Actually the religion itself feels that all members must hold positions to keep busy in the organization. Hence one of the symbols of the church is the honey bee. So when a member is approached to do a job, he or she is told they were chosen by the "Heavenly Father" to do this service. The person is then in a fix to do this task or disobey the will of the "Heavenly Father". The membership will vote by raising their hands. Of course everyone will raise their hand because it was God that chose that person, even thought it was really decided by people in governing positions. Each person is in a way obligated to vote in favor or go against the will of God.
I actually asked a lot of questions when ever I met with the "Kid Elders" . It would piss them off big time because I would not accept what they were teaching at face value. They would say that I was not praying hard enough. If I prayed harder then I would see it or the holy spirit would explain it for me. I would then flip open the book of Acts and show how the Bereans question many things also. They would get even more pissed!!
Well enough of this, if I don't stop I may write my own Mormon book.

Witnesses And Their Obsession With Bible Names
by ColdRedRain ini was just thinking about all my old witness friends and how many of them have weird bible names.
i mean, who the hell outside of a witness would name their child "ephriam" or "hezekiah" or "elijah"?.
i guess they don't have to worry about being picked on by the kids at school for their names because most witless kids don't go to school anymore, lol.

My parents were never JW's, but before I was born, my mother wanted to call me Zedekiah. They settled on Kenneth. Last Saturday I did see a political campaign sign for a man whose first name is Festus!!

Did we take nothing good from the JW's?
by kenpodragon inrecently on another location online, someone told me my thoughts sound like something from a watchtower or awake.
they said, i come off in the same manner and use illustrations to speak.
it was also mentioned that i come off as an elder at times, and sound very authoritarian in my manner.

I guess what I learned from the JW's are several things. First the organization taught me not to except things blindly or to take at face value. I try to research as many things as possible, even though there are not enough hours in a day. I also learned a lot about biblical history. Of course the JW dates maybe off a bit, I still had a chance to study many events in time. I now work with an engineer who is a Middle Eastern Jew. At times we will talk about many trivial subjects from the Old Testament along with other areas such as the works of Josephus. Others at work whom grew up Catholic or some other religion have not the foggiest idea what we are talking about.

I think they should dub the video in the scene where Peter Graves asks the young boy, "Have you ever seen a grown man naked?" and edit in a W.T. and Awake in his hand.

I was not restricted when I became a JW in my late teens, but that was when "Star Wars" first came out. It was summer and a bunch of us went to the Drive-In and sat on the hoods of our cars. Of course there were several Elders with their families to keep an eye on us. After the movie was over there was a lot of talk between the Elders about "THE FORCE" and what it really ment.
