in the last few months i have felt extremely lonely.. .
was a witness.
Have you looked at meetup.com? Depending on where you live, you might have a whole bunch of social groups you could join. I live in a fairly small city, but there is a meetup group for people with dogs, hikers, and a book club.
Sometimes I make myself meet new people at preschool drop off and arrange playdates for my kids and get to know the other moms.
Volunteering is a great suggestion!

Interesting story! I like how he was trying to find a logical reason for why JWs are persecuted. I never thought JWs destroyed families until I was on the other side.
i was baptised --1963. left in 1978. fifteen years.
pre-baptism, another 5 years.
My parents were baptized when I was 4.
I was baptized at 19.
My last memorial was 2009 and I haven't been to meetings since. Total: 23 years

a topic on here about 1975 prompted me to write about how, for me, that is and never was or will be an issue.. also, the 144,000 and 'two classes' with memorial partaking, and child abuse are not issues with this religion.
everyone has their unique teachings and personnel problems.. the real problem with this religion was highlighted in the 2008 yearbook.
it gave a story of a young woman who was from estonia who was on the equivalent of american idol for estonia.
A very intelligent young brother had a part at the convention a few years ago sharing how he was offered a full scholarship to a leading North American technical school and internship at NASA. He turned these opportunities down to pioneer!!! His parents and the audience were so proud of him.
I hope he doesn't realize TTATT and regret throwing those opportunities away. Last time I saw him, he was a bookkeeper.

Apognophos - Violence against children is abhorrent! I would never let my small children see this picture. TV and video games, while they can be violent, don't have children as the victims (at least not ones I've ever watched). And material for children certainly don't have gruesome pictures like this.
I noticed the man with the knife is holding the baby differently than in the My Book of Bible Stories. At least the baby isn't being dangled by a foot in this picture (not saying this picture is better in anyway). I grew up with the Yellow Bible Stories book and was disturbed by some of the pictures. So happy we're out of this religion now and my children don't have to do these "fun" activities.

That was so kind of you to be friendly with the girls. You might have been the nicest person they talked to all day. I always remembered the people who were polite and didnt slam a door in my face. You showed them that former JWs can be nice people too, and not all exJWs are crazy, angry apostates.
i'm really interested in this question because i've heard for years that if you forgo further education and go pioneering, when you have a family down the track you will get a good job because jehovah will provide for you because you pioneered.
as long as i was a kool-aid drinker, even then, i thought, "how does pioneering pay your bills?
surely education should come first.
My husband is a draftsman, he took an acceptable 2 year program at college. 4 year programs were looked down upon by the JWs in our area. He could have gone to school for 2 more years and been an engineer. He never applied for entrance scholarships to university, and never considered a student loan because he felt debt was bad. He had some of the top marks in the Province, but tried to make due just to get by "in this system" because "the end was near."
Now he wishes he had done things a bit differently! Fortunately our children will be encouraged to pursue their dreams and not have to worry if they are pleasing Jehovah or not.

today i added a new article to my blog sharing information from a 1983 study published in the journal for the scientific study of religion addressing religious affiliation and psychiatric diagnoses.
this article pulls information from an excellent academic study that is often misunderstood and therefore underutilized for its value.
One of my inlaws has been severely depressed for years. He has had 15 or more electroconvulsive therapy treatments and it failed to work. Antidepressants don't work. And he refuses to see a therapist or psychologist because he's afraid they will blame the religion (due to two other "sisters" experiences with a therapist). Sad.
