i was never disfellowshipped, but it's been about 10 years since i was an active jw.
i've made an occasional meeting or half-day at an assembly here or there, strictly at the behest of family (maybe once a year), but i'm completely disconnected.
more importantly, mentally i'm 100% free.. we all have a tendency to project our views and beliefs onto others, and tending to believe that other former jws share our views is no different.
I was also in Group 4. I believed in the religion 100% and was totally lost once I realized TTATT. After a couple years of major depression, therapy, and visiting this forum, things are really looking up!
For all those who feel lost, or like life has no meaning, hang in there. Life really will get better, it just takes time.

hello all, can anyone give me some inputt on the masons.
im always leary about cults and joining groups.
but the masons seem ok too me.. i want to join because of new freinds and just network with people.
My brother in law joined last year. He's 35 and has never been a JW or religious. He really enjoys the people there, and most are older gentlemen. It gives him something to do in a small town.
i thought the Masons were just a Fraternal Order, like the Eagles or Lions Cub? Maybe a bit more quirky. :) A lot of businessmen in our city are Masons.
Whatever group you find, enjoy! It's nice being able to give back to the community and make new friends.
i have been abused in some way or another my entire life.
my dad started molesting me when i was 3 years old.
he physically molested me until i was 16 and we moved into a new house where i had a lock on my door.
I am so sorry this has happened to you. It sounds like you have been through so much, I can only imagine. You are a strong and beautiful woman, and I hope that you can seek some more counseling to help support you on your journey. <3

That is awesome! JWs can be seriously brainwashed. A few years back my husband felt like he should go to the assembly even though my Grandpa was dying. I asked him why wouldn't he stay and support me, and thankfully he realized what was truly important (not the assembly!). JWs have a bunch of "shoulds" they feel are necessary to keep up appearances. It is nice your husband can be balanced.

OMG! That game looks amazing! I occasionally dust off the old NES or SNES to play Zelda. Those were the only Nintendo systems we had, so I didn't get to play any later games. But now I know what I want for Xmas. :)

My parents weren't against any Nintendo games, but I did have to stop watching "Today's Special," where a department store mannequin magically came to life. Sounds perfectly logical to me.

this is something that seems to be conterversial in dubbieland.
i have always seen jws stand when at sporting events, but i have heard conversations in which the dubs said they would either linger in the hallways until it was over, or else sit down during it.
most of the time when there is such discrepancy between jws it means the light has been flicked on and off so often it leaves them dazed and confused.
I was just telling my husband about this last night! When I went to school, it was a BiG deal if we JW kids stood up for the anthem. We were told to keep seated if we were told to "rise for the national anthem" and stand only if we were told to "rise and sing." Well, we aware always just told to rise for the anthem.
Fun Fact: I moved in Grade 7, at my new school we had to stand every morning for the national anthem! I felt like the biggest LOSER for sitting. Eventually I did awkwardly stand. If I stood at school assemblies, I would get death looks from fellow JWs who were sitting. If I sat like the other JWs during the anthem, teachers would glare and point at me.
This is a sore subject for me, maybe I need therapy. ;)

with the huge floods in alberta the news now is starting to cover the issue of property damange and insurance.. we've never really thought a lot about insurance cover for flooding because it became a big issue in the uk about 5-10 years ago with limited land availability leading to building on flood plains and the eventual inevitable consequences and so when we bought over here we didn't buy anywhere that was a possible flood risk.
our choice seems to have worked out as we've been completely untouched by the recent issues but tragically, others have been less fortunate and apparently few people are covered for 'overland flooding' which is where water enters your house through doors and windows.. it's hard to really know what is fair.
i understand the reason why insurers don't cover it and the arguments on both sides.. one one hand, we included the flood risk when puchasing a home.
We live in BC and had a minor leak in our basement a couple days ago due to unusually heavy rain. We found out our insurance no longer covers ground water leakage (not available since 2011). But we are still covered for accidental flooding due to appliances, sewer backup, water main breaks, and ice damning. With some policies you need to pay extra for these coverages, so it is good to double check. Our insurance is through TD Meloche Mennox.
I'm hoping our Government and fellow Canadians will help out with the costs for the affected homeowners, it must be devastating to lose your house and have to start over.
