The Latter Day Saints broadcast their General Conference for their members. It seems the Watchtower has been copying the Mormons with their Family Worship Night and new children's activites and videos.

For the born-in/raised in, you ever get resentful upon seeing kids involved with organized sports?
by Theocratic Sedition inthis past saturday, i was watching the georgetown/syracuse game, and a nike commercial was played during one of the breaks.
i couldn't locate the exact commercial, but below is a variation of it that has scenes from the same one that aired on saturday.
man did i feel some heavy resentment towards the wt during and especially after the commercial aired.

Lol Magwitch!
I loved ballet, but had to stop going because the classes were always on a Tues/Thurs evening.
It's a shame the WT demonizes sports. It seems like the kids at school who played on sports teams were driven, had confidence, were popular, and went on to University. They learned what it takes to win, how to lose, and how to strive for goals. No wonder the WT discourages sports!

I made the mistake of bombarding my husband with too many doctrine points I felt were wrong. He didn't care about them. But he did care about his family and our happiness, so he left a year after I stopped going to meetings.
If you have children, one of the points on child abuse I learned was awful, the two witness rule. You can check it out on the JW media page. It says
" When any one of Jehovah’s Witnesses is accused of an act of child abuse, the local congregation elders are expected to investigate. Two elders meet separately with the accused and the accuser to see what each says on the matter. If the accused denies the charge, the two elders may arrange for him and the victim to restate their position in each other’s presence, with elders also there. If during that meeting the accused still denies the charges and there are no others who can substantiate them, the elders cannot take action within the congregation at that time. Why not? As a Bible-based organization, we must adhere to what the Scriptures say, namely, “No single witness should rise up against a man respecting any error or any sin . . . At the mouth of two witnesses or at the mouth of three witnesses the matter should stand good.” ( Deuteronomy 19:15 ) Jesus reaffirmed this principle as recorded at Matthew 18:15-17 . However, if two persons are witnesses to separate incidents of the same kind of wrongdoing, their testimony may be deemed sufficient to take action.
However, even if the elders cannot take congregational action, they are expected to report the allegation to the branch office of Jehovah's Witnesses in their country, if local privacy laws permit. In addition to making a report to the branch office, the elders may be required by law to report even uncorroborated or unsubstantiated allegations to the authorities. If so, the elders receive proper legal direction to ensure that they comply with the law. Additionally, the victim or anyone else who has knowledge of the allegation may wish to report the matter to the authorities, and it is his or her absolute right to do so."
Their attitude on child abuse is horrible. Why should a child have to face an abuser in front of the elders if the accused says the child is lying? Maybe this issue would bother your husband as well?
Take it slow, focus on your family and their happiness, and don't slam your hubby with too much too soon. Wishing you all the best!

Have you looked at meetup.com? Depending on where you live, you might have a whole bunch of social groups you could join. I live in a fairly small city, but there is a meetup group for people with dogs, hikers, and a book club.
Sometimes I make myself meet new people at preschool drop off and arrange playdates for my kids and get to know the other moms.
Volunteering is a great suggestion!

Interesting story! I like how he was trying to find a logical reason for why JWs are persecuted. I never thought JWs destroyed families until I was on the other side.

The real problem with Watchtower.
by Rattigan350 ina topic on here about 1975 prompted me to write about how, for me, that is and never was or will be an issue.. also, the 144,000 and 'two classes' with memorial partaking, and child abuse are not issues with this religion.
everyone has their unique teachings and personnel problems.. the real problem with this religion was highlighted in the 2008 yearbook.
it gave a story of a young woman who was from estonia who was on the equivalent of american idol for estonia.

A very intelligent young brother had a part at the convention a few years ago sharing how he was offered a full scholarship to a leading North American technical school and internship at NASA. He turned these opportunities down to pioneer!!! His parents and the audience were so proud of him.
I hope he doesn't realize TTATT and regret throwing those opportunities away. Last time I saw him, he was a bookkeeper.

Apognophos - Violence against children is abhorrent! I would never let my small children see this picture. TV and video games, while they can be violent, don't have children as the victims (at least not ones I've ever watched). And material for children certainly don't have gruesome pictures like this.
I noticed the man with the knife is holding the baby differently than in the My Book of Bible Stories. At least the baby isn't being dangled by a foot in this picture (not saying this picture is better in anyway). I grew up with the Yellow Bible Stories book and was disturbed by some of the pictures. So happy we're out of this religion now and my children don't have to do these "fun" activities.
