  Death of NASA Legend Aged 101

  katherine johnson passed away today aged 101. she was the subject of the excellent movie hidden figures that told the story of her amazing work as a mathematician calculating trajectories for space flights.. 'ms.

  johnson helped our nation enlarge the frontiers of space even as she made huge strides that also opened doors for women and people of color in the universal human quest to explore space.

  Why Did Obama win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009?

  while even non-peaceful people have been awarded the peace prize (e.g.

  arafat, kissinger), i am confused as to how obama could possibly have won the award one year after being the first term junior senator from illinois with zero “peace” experience (other than his ‘well-articulated’ rhetoric)..

  reading the obama-pining on a couple of posts made me reexamine my view of barry’s presidency..

  Ex JW of 30 years , still messed up from it

  hi , this is my first post .. i left jws 30 years ago as 18 year old unbaptised youth and after the initial fallout from leaving pretty much put the whole thing in a box and buried it .. however , i am now starting to realise how much the doomsday messages and the ‘them and us’ doctrines that’s fed to you from birth has remained in my core beliefs.. how have others managed to reprogram themselves ?.

  The arguments on this forum center around leaving/fading or officially Disassociating to stop any contact from the Elders, Circuit Servant etc.

  Unfortunately when your name is called out as in 'S0 and S0 is no longer one of Jehovah's Witness'. You will pay the same price and be lumped in with ex JW sinners.

  Simply leaving is your right. Freedom of Religion could not exist without Freedom From Religion.

  In fact over 60% of born-ins leave and no longer consider themselves or identify with the JW's according to the Pew religious survey.

  Also the JW's have as many divorces (11%) as most every Christian religion according to Pew.

  My wife and I faded away back in the mid 1960's. This was a time when you could make it known that you were leaving. DF didn't start until 1981. To be perfectly honest the on going arguments spoiled any feeling of family closeness. To be on our own strengthened our marriage.

  Maybe take some time off and put some distance between the congregation and family members....before you decide. Until then you can simply say "we are praying to Jehovah about certain issues that have stumbled us.....thank you for your concern"

  Or you can say that returning is always a possibility but not until the Society cleans up it's pedophile problem.

  Jesus said to his followers "do not hinder the little children from coming to me" I would think child sexual abuse would be considered as a crime against the little children and one hell of a hindrance.

  Keep in touch.........we know the issues of leaving because we have all chosen a path away from the JW construct.

  My kids are watching Atheist Content on Youtube!

  i was looking at my children's watch history on youtube when i saw that they were watching atheist content!!!

  Miriam I get the feeling you kind of stumbled in here only to learn that obviously....... we are for the most part....... ex Jw's. Or at the least people who are still in..... because of family.

  The information in answer to your concerns has been reasonable. Your concern leaves us with no understanding of who and what your children are or who and what kind of parent you are.

  What we have to offer on this forum are parents, adults who have a found a way to leave the JW world with some dignity. There are a lot of issues re the WTBTS in many respects that demonstrate that they are more dangerous then Jonestown where 'only' 1,000 plus people committed suicide in one night.

  Based on medical records at least 1000 JW's each year since 1940 (73,000 thousand to date) have accepted the ban on blood doctrine and died before their time...... or suffered beyond reason. This is based on the start of the ban in 1940.

  My wife and I have lost two uber JW's in our families to a death that they need not have experienced ....not as young as they were.

  At the very least remove the suicide cards you carry in your purse or wallet that cover you or your children with a ban on blood. Your not pleasing Jehovah. By the way His name was made up in the Catholic Church by a Monk . The WT Society has admitted to this.

  You need to understand this ban on blood was a made up doctrine to set the JW's apart. They didn't need to be set apart with a dangerous belief....... they needed to be kept safe.

  Your children are more important then the entire governing body and professional bethelites who haven't accomplished anything more important then your children have.

  Their reading other things ....thank god for the internet.

  Until the internet the Mormons never knew that their hound dog .....Joseph Smith..........had 30 wives.

  Guess what you can discover for yourself if you......... like your children...... do your own research.

  How do you feel about pedophiles? There are 23,000 who attend the different JW kingdom halls in the USA and who are on record with the WTBTS as pedophiles.

  Jesus said "do not hinder the young children from coming to me". That's all you need to know.

  The bull shit the Society supports is all you need to disregard. Jesus is the lost sole of the WTBTS. Being pro Jehovah when we were supposed to be Jesus's witnesses is part of their calculation.

  Encourage them to watch more if the programs make sense re science, history etc.

  Your job as a parent is to help your children think for themselves and not be controlled, in the near future, by a failed religion like the JW's, the Mormon's, Scientology etc.

  A highly controlled belief system promotes delusional beliefs.

  in fairness, the elders were kind and supportive.

  the problem is, i had always been the model witness before that.

  You are worth more then the foolishness of untrained Elders who are ever ready to monitor your morals, strengths and weaknesses. Most of whom barely have a high school education.

  Believing in religions can be very dangerous. Most religions don't believe that you need to be controlled and taught an ever changing theology........... Others want to control you body and mind.

  when i was affiliated with the witnesses, there were barely 6,000 who profess to be of the anointed remnant.

  i recently read somewhere that today there are over 20,000 who profess to be anointed.

  that figure may be more when you consider those who meet and partake privately for fear of the stigma of claiming to be anointed.

  What's creepy is a bunch of under educated people managed to construct a religion built on the bones of Adventist beliefs and the Great Pyramid, set an end time, then reset it many times over, banned blood which helped to kill off many of their believers, did not encourage higher education until they needed college level volunteers, and consistently painted their religion into a corner based on faulty research and hair brained ideas.

  The future of the Watchtower Society

  i left way back in 2002, seems a long time ago now and i haven't really kept up with any developments since.. i've kept one ear open and noticed recently there is talk of the wt being investigated over the sex abuse cover ups, but over the years this story has come in and out of the news.. what is everybody's predictions as to the future of the borg?

  i know what most people want to happen, but realistically, are we just looking at certain elements being hit because of the restructuring they did a few years ago to protect from this very thing?

  looking further ahead, you'd like to think that more people would wake up?

  The WTBTS is now in the same boat as the Christian Scientists and the Scientologists and any number of other made up religions that have demonstrated that they have no real value for any community.

  Like these other religions the JW's made up shit and then painted themselves into a corner.
  

  And now they have a huge pedophile problem......... similar to other organizations and churches. Don't tell....keep it a secret!....was the WT way to mitigate this problem. But for a number of reason's it's worse.

  It takes two witnesses to bring charges within the JW congregation. A big part of this stems from the old Jewish rule of needing ' two witnesses' to accuse a person of a crime.

  The JW's purposely go into prisons to spread their good news. It doesn't take a pedophile prisoner very long to understand that being associated with the JW community is an open pass to grooming children........ for sexual abuse.

  Any pedophiles out there who understand the protections they will have ....... will more then willingly covert to the JW religion and readily take advantage of the blind sided 'friends'.

  Unfortunately JW Elders are taught to view sexual crime...... as a sin ,,,,,,,so like mold...... child sexual abuse within the congregation......... grows.

  It was discovered during the recent Australia Royal Commission into religious sexual child abuse............. (Google ARC or the Jehovah's Witness pedophile problem for more information).

  That from 1950 to the present day, the JW Branch in Australia kept files on 1005 cases of reported sexual abuse and not a one was ever turned over to the authorities. Worse then that you could be DF if you brought the crime to the police.

  Here in the USA it is possible that the WTBTS has 23,000 pedophile reports on file.

  The Society is a joke and is failing every day and every way to keep their authority intact and their numbers. Their pedophile court cases are a disaster which is one of the primary reasons they are selling off Kingdom Halls.

  No State or Country takes them seriously at this point in time.

  JWs are paying it forward according to the Pew religious survey. 67% of born-ins no longer identify with being a JW.

  Among all the religions surveyed by the Pew survey....... the JW's have the least higher education and have the least income.

  All of this you can Google.

  jwfacts.com provides another great service. Under 'reasons to be disfellowshiped' the Society lists over 100 reasons you can be DFed....... It's all madness.

  My intention was to add an extra bit of non-sequitur levity.

  You should consider asking your doctor about a malaise that can effect one's funny bone.

  In the words of Robert Plant "Does anyone remember laughter?"
