60th Anniversary today - I was baptized 9-01-56
by Bonnie_Clyde in60th anniversary – i was baptized 9-1-56 .
my parents weren’t witnesses at the time, but my witness uncle studied with my brother and i. i think the only reason my parents let him was because my brother was having mental issues and were hoping it would help him.
my father surprised me a few years later, started studying and was baptized in 1961, later appointed an elder.

That's why they have a new strategy. They have changed their design to a commercial and much more saleable asset. They have also rethought the areas in which they should locate these buildings. With free labor and potentially a reduced cost on building materials, they should be able to continue increasing their funds.

Good one, I might use that with my husband who is always right, except when he's wrong. -

Audio machine and the satanic band WT used!
by Crazyguy init's been braught out in other places before that the band audiomachine' song eternal flame was used in the last video of the convention this year.
but do you know that the band has several albums and in these albums are songs with titles that could easily be construed as satanic or pagan!
some of these song titles are: hells battalion, legions of doom, tree of life, god of lankhmar, and the heavens shall tremble.

The comments from Bethel include the idea that spending donated money on this is just another expense like paying for the hire of Assembly Halls. Also, there is no biblical basis for saying it is wrong and comes down to personal opinion. If you have a problem about it you need to pray. If it happens to be wrong then it was just a mistake.
Yet, would they use a public talk prepared by a Mormon, let alone pay for it? If they did so, would a JW who found a problem with that have to pray about it, to be corrected in their way of thinking? -

I think this is an important question...
by The Rebel inwhen i first met my wife and on that so important first date i was 21 years old and sadly broke, she was an 18 year old au pair.
any way i treated her to mcdonald's but she had to pay for the meal.
now over 20 years later and still together, i realize how lucky i was she didn't say on that first date " if you can't afford to pay "our" mcdonald's meal f...off" .

That was a really sweet thing to do, writing a Valentines Card. It can't be easy for blokes who are usually the ones that take the first obvious step in starting a serious relationship and subject themselves to the possibility of being rejected.

Rebel, does that mean that in 1996 when you took your wife on your first date, you gave her either flowers or chocolates?
If not, then you have just identified yourself as a disgusting, evil minded, little creep.
If you did but then made her pay for her meal, imo it was a very silly thing to do.
Maybe you just phrased the question wrong. I never knew it was customary to give your partner either flowers or chocolates on a first date but our Aussie guys are not known to be all that romantic. -

This religion has a chance of survival
by Socrateswannabe inthe jws could survive as an organization due to one vital human need: recognition.
for decades this religion glorified the older ones and really didn't do much for the younger folks, hence the younger people left in droves.
if you're middle-aged or older, what was the average age of the elders in your congregation or your circuit overseer, as you were growing up?

I agree with Dunedain.
If the Bible counts for anything in these decisions then they are not heeding its counsel. Wisdom and experience are more likely to have been developed in the older men - the elderly.
The pressure on the younger ones may be too much for them to deal with. If they are married, they will have their own relationships put under extreme pressure, this is a time for couples to learn about each other and grow. It will be even more difficult if these younger ones are starting a family. As wonderful as it is to have children, this is probably the most demanding time on individuals. The wife needs the full support of her husband in a multitude of areas, including time and emotional support and both are only beginning to learn of their new responsibilities.
This change is not surprising, they are desperate. It's no wonder that they keep repeating in recent magazines that obedience is essential, murmuring is wrong and to accept whatever Elders do, without complaint. -

Generation expiry date?
by pleaseresearch inhow long will it take for a jw to see that even the overlapping generation is wrong?.
the org waited and waited to see if their interpretation of it came true.
those alive in 1914 would still be alive obviously it didn't and jws have to believe in an overlapping generation.

All the current members of the Governing Body are in this second lot of the overlapping generation. With their current interpretation, conveniently they will not need to declare it as a wrong interpretation because they will all have to be dead in order for this to be obvious.

Is this the last chance for inactive and df'd ones?
by innerpeace inhi all, just wondering if there's anything going around about the elders receiving instruction from the society to give inactive ones and disfellowshipped ones one last chance to come back?
i ask because i have a still in family member that i received a message from, and urging me to go back.
the elders are apparently saying there is no time left.
