To be fair, there are those that want to know what their fair share is so being told an amount is helpful.
The org should not be claiming that they do not take up collections.
i cannot speak for other countries, but it has become evident of late that more and more talks are being done by presiding overseers at kh's (especially in the west midlands) and they are making it quite clear that they are expecting 3 from every publisher (per day) who visit the dudley assembly hall, west midlands to contribute towards the upkeep of it.. the quote from the po's who have done this talk have said that "it is expected that each publisher will put 3 into the box on each day".. what do you think of that then?
as the world hits an economic breakdown the jw's seem to maximising their income from struggling families.. dudley assembly hall holds about 600-700 people.
i'm sure people are capable of doing the maths.. so much for voluntary contributions !!

i haven't posted in a long time.
most trying to recover and still get my head straight, this religion when you find it's not the 'truth' is hard to move on sometimes.
my mom urgently needed to speak to me about a magazine that just came out.
obves said For the end of the world to take place we must have a 120-year period that precedes that event and there must be people who positively linked to that period having the true christian religion. It applies to any predictions of the end of the world .If we cannot identify such period we cannot expect the end of the world ! Matthew 24.37-39 .There must a christian religion a new one that began that 120-year period.
Could you please advise when this 120 years began?
to the household of god, israel, and those who go with... may you all have peace!.
i am curious (and serious)... regarding your thoughts as to the "source" for the "sacred secrets" revealed by paul... and whether you believe he was the last to so receive (if you indeed believe so and excluding john's revelation) and why you believe so, particularly given the "gifts" of the spirit and the prophecy regarding its outpouring.
i am also curious as to what you believe such gifts are for... and how they are used.. i am curious... because i am concerned.

Who determines who really is (or isn't) of the household of God? Who is to say if someone isn't a member of the household of God? Isn't that something to be determined by God himeself, and not a mere human?
That is so the truth and the bible says let no man be judge. The FDS has not yet been appointed as judges and they have gone way beyond just critiscm of others.
ok i know many of you will think i am strange but i tie in to the meeting on tuesday night just for the announcements five minutes ok i might have to listen to just a tad bit of the song it truly is horrible.. ok so just like 10 minutes ago they announced that the elders can go to the po or cobe after the meeting to get their new elders book.
i was like seriously they just announced it.
i was laughing so hard as it has been out on the internet for at least two weeks now and the elders in my hall are now just getting it.
They know it's available on the internet and not so secret now so if they act cool and casual about it then when the others in the congregations here or see a copy they then think it is not a secret book because it was mentioned at a meeting. They are more likely to ask the elders about the book if they have any questions and the elders can say whatever they like without going into too much detail or showing them the book, in other words, they can play it down.
the dec 15th wt finally tells us why the new song book.
who would think it was new light that made them have to change there book but here it is.. paragraph 15 says "as times passes, refinements are made in our understanding of the sciptures.
proverbs 4:18 says: "the path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established.
My guess is that not many liked the old songbook. So give the crowd what they want.
wow, dudes and dudess, it really looks like glacial fragmentation is inevitable in the mighty mom.. unless j. mason is making this all up.
but his sources seem credible.. kudos j. mason.. somehow i smell a bill bowen in this.
that makes it hot!
Thanks Mad Sweeney too.
Actually it makes you wonder. If they are saying that the 'love of many will cool off' does not refer to the JWs but is referring to Christendom (or other religions), then they themselves are acknowledging that there are those in other religions that have a love of God. How can this be if they are worshipping a false God?
The article does say " So it apparently is among such claimed worshipers of God that love is cooling off." but the scripture makes no clarification whatsoever regarding this, they are reading their own judgement into this (ie that it is a false love to begin with).
Further to that they say everyone other than JWs are lovers of Satan (and their God whether they think it or not or have a religion) then there can't be any falling away.

Thanks Blondie, that answers my question previously.

Sorry to interupt but I was wondering if the JWs fortell a falling away of christians in the very last days leading up to Armageddon or an increase?
i have read here that the kingdom halls usually have a mortgage held by the watchtower (or by some elders?
), and that when the congregation finally pays it off, the kh ownership is transferred to the watchtower.. can anyone here confirm that is what happens?.
What, charging their own brothers interest, did I hear you say? What a wordly thing to do, hopefully that doesn't happen in paradise.
there is a lot of information available about questions to ask jws.
it's a good thing to make them think a little more instead of being spoon fed all the time.. one question that could be posed is - where did the the 'new light' come from?
(answer) so where did the 'old light' come from?.

It's what you needed to know at the time, even though it was wrong.
Don't flame me over this.
Just reporting the WTBTS view.
Then a mother of her child that had to refuse a kidney transplant in the 70s was because it was the right time?
Anyway, if the holy spirit is directing them, how does it direct them more so than other people? So they are not listening to Gods directrion properly until it becomes blatantly obvious or convenient? It becomes obvious that they are listening to their own thoughts and not Gods and that follows that individuals listen to mans thoughts and not Gods, that is a big burden to carry, but at least they can blame (praise) the org.
A poster mentioned faith. Why are we to have faith in the org and not in God or Jesus? A JW might say because they are the Truth but flip flops, new light and old light would at best show only that they are the closest thing to the truth and yet God and Jesus are the Truth. A JW might also say that it would cause disunity if they went against the orgs teaching, but isn't it better to follow God's Truth?
It's funny how the JWs give so much ridicule to publications such as the book of Mormon or the Koran and yet require strict adherence to their own publications.
All would be much more acceptable if they could only say, in humility and truth, that they are making a well researched and educated guess along with sincere supplication to God and the bible but it was up to the individual to draw their own conclusions. There is a difference between directing and guiding and lording over or ruling their r & f.
