God’s Word condemns both drunkenness and gluttony as behavior that is incompatible with serving God. Therefore, the Christian congregation regards a confirmed glutton in the same manner as it views a habitual drunkard. Neither a drunkard nor a glutton can be part of the Christian congregation.

The org. says that a judicial committee should be held if someone is a glutton. This is from the latest elders manual
19. Gluttony: (Prov. :20} 21;
w04 1 1 pp. 301) A glutton
routinely shows a lack of restraint,even gorging himself on food to the point of feeling uncomfortable or becoming sick. Gluttony is determined, not bysomeone's size, but by hisattitude toward food.

99% of JW's are not 'noble-minded' like the Boreans. 99% of them have no 'love of the truth' or they would be bothered by these things and would research them.
I get where you're coming from and this is how it comes across. The problem is that they rely too much on the interpretation of a few men rather than the bible.
this might sound a little strange but i hope some of you might understand.. my 17 year old boy is hot and heavy with his jw girlfriend.
he told me the other day that they had talked about getting married an two or three years, how they want to travel the world before having kids etc.
i asked him where getting baptised fitted into this, as they will need to be baptised if they want a kh wedding.
That is a toughie. It is usually best to go with what your heart tells you and no doubt you want to put his interests first. He hasn't matured yet and can easily make the wrong choices without your guiding hand. I personally don't know what advice to give you and I am interested in what others think.
On thing to consider (but I am sure you have anyway) is his age. He is very young and will be only 19 or 20 when he marries. I would at the very least be discouraging him to do that. Once he gets married as a JW he is stuck with it for the rest of his life. There are some successful marriages of young ones but one hears so often that they feel they probably got married too soon. He may be happy and content for a few years but it the long term it can be quite hard going from what I have seen. Then the children come along and this makes it serious business.
It is really hard on a JW because of the sex before marriage issue and two/three years is still a long time. Sometimes these things have a way of sorting themselves out

Double standards
this is my first post, and to be honest, the main reason why i signed up here was to ask this very question:.

Just to confirm the above there are two ways of going about it.
The first is to go to the Polling Booth and have your name crossed off this list. Then on the paper mark the form so as to make it an informal vote, by crossing it or whatever. The WT has made it clear in their publications that this is acceptable if it is not against your own conscience. Many JWs will not do this but the fact is it is legal requirement to vote and the JWs also acknowledge that we must be obediant to the law of the land if it does not contravene God's law. I chose this method many years ago when I left.
The other method is to not attend and be served with the papers inviting an explanation as to why you didn't vote. I know of a person who does this but is not a JW. The form is completed on the basis that they are a 'conscientious objector' on a religious basis and quote a scripture. They have never been fined.
Personally I prefer the first method as it demonstrates that I will comply with the law. Also by deliberately making it an informal vote it sends a message to the Government to say that even though we are law abiding citizens it is a nonsense to force people to choose one Party over another. Hopefully as the number of informal votes increases they will make voting non compulsory.
ok.... so a friend a baby and was sharing a scripture.. and i thought of psalms 139:16.. so i "google" it and i see all the "alt" translatiosn of the scripture compared to what i remember from the nwt.. the way i read it from what the other translations?.
basicaly, it favors predestination.. i feel the wt socienty has it's power through saying - "hey... god doesn't know you unless you're with us.".

You are right and it does my head in to think about it. God knows everything and is able to do anything. It was put to me that he created us with our own free will and God can also choose not to know what our own choices will be. Our future may or may not already be known but we certainly have some control over that in that we personally decide if we will be obedient or not.

There should be more of these get togethers, especially for the children. There was a period of time that the youths in our congregation had get togethers and they were good fun. It was once a month and we had an hour discussion at the start where we would pick a specific topic and discuss it, there was an elder who would oversee this. It really helped us to grow spiritually as we could think, debate and discuss issues together. One topic, for instance, was about self defence and there were various views, we were able to consider different scenarious and come up with a very christian approach. We also got to know each other as human beings, our strengths and weaknesses, our fears and joy and a better understanding of each other.
We became real friends and our hello's and smiles to each other in the hall were no longer fake.
There should be more of them and without too many restrictions. Putting a bit of thought into the planning (e.g. arranging dress ups) can be good but gets to be a drag after a while unless you have an organiser who loves to do it. Most of us just love the companionship and you don't get that to any real degree at the Hall.
i feel confused, empty, alone, sad, sensitive, hurt and so on.
more and more it seems.... will i ever find my place, my home and be content and happy?

My thoughts are with you Newborn, it's not easy. I wish I had access to a site like this when I left as I made bad decisions due to feeling confused and down. Things got better for me and I finally met a wonderful guy who wasn't judgemental and supported and helped me to get stronger. There are good people around.

the upside of this approach is that deborah is a real woman and will be able to give you girls proper advice.. the downside is that you will either need to first find a top rate medium (shes been dead quite a while) or wait for rutherfords god to bring her back from the dead (which rutherford maintains will happen any day real soon now if not even before the convention ends).. you will easily recognise her as rutherford has thoughtfully printed a picture of her in the new and bang up to date children book.. unfortunately if you dont live in the usa you will need to telephone her, which thankfully has recently been invented.
expect to hang on the line a while as she will be very busy playing her agony aunt role for so many jws worldwide all seeking her advice, but rutherford says that it will be well worth the wait.. .
That's bizare Black Sheep. The thought process that must have gone into it, put some 1950's colouring and lettering, display some wholesome food and pretend it's about something else in order to make it a little more respectable.
