Honesty is on top of the list for me. What draws me to a poster/person is their motivation, their underlying principles that really drives them.

That has answered my question Ding, I didn't realise that the solar calander went as far back as the early Israelites.
I appreciate you are a wealth of information in this area Lassinger and your reassurance that the various biblical timelines are fairly accurate, with only minor differences. Certainly with the JWs dating of 1914 and 1975 etc. I understand how inaccurate they may be, one would have to be inspired by God to get this accurate.
What does amaze me is how detailed the bible is in being able to extract a timeline from it that is fairly consistant by those interpreting it.

New light on NEW LIGHT
by Terry inwell, it just sort of came to me while i was driving.. the doctrine of new light is a false analogy.. why had i not considered this before?.
here is what i'm thinking; see if you don't agree.... jehovah's witnesses are divided into three distinct tiers of membership.. 1.governing body anointed.
2.clueless anointed.

Thanks for sharing that new light.
I found this comment the most damning
If it had been JEHOVAH'S light which Fred Franz understood, the transmission would have been illuminating an ACTUAL EVENT worth preparing for instead
The bad light that they have presented has caused many to stumble and not only did many leave but those that heeded the light lost focus on what was really important for that time. Their cries of urgency have caused many, if not all, to live much different lives than they otherwise would have. We aren't just talking a few years but for many their whole lives. Their eyes have been focused on the prize and they have died without seeing it. How many would have enriched their own family lives, spending more time in enjoying each others company or helping others less fortunate? How many would have been more focused on improving their own personalities and drawing close to God, not with the prize in mind, but with a deeper desire to do what is right because they appreciate what God has already given them, not what they are about to get?
How would Noah have faired if he had announced time after time that 'tommorrow we have to move into the ark, without clear instructions from God? It would have been understandable if even his own family didn't trust him but he would have been ashamed. If through his words he was pre-emptying God's will he would probably have found himself unworthy and sincerely sought forgiveness from both God and those listening to him.

Thanks guys, this is a great help. The main reason I wanted it is because we were watching a movie about the life of Moses and when hubby and I tried to work out when things occurred we had no idea. The timeline will help us to put all the little stories we know into a better perspective.
I said to my hubby that it would be fun to use the timeline to prick our memory about the stories we do know. This made him puzzle about how a timeline could be accurate. His main question was how do they know how long a year is.
In the OT there are lots of times where a specific number of years are mentioned. Could someone please explain how bible interpretations were able to translate these earlier texts into what we understand a year to be these days? For instance, Moses was in the wilderness for 40 years (and we take that to mean approx 40 years of 365/366 days) but when that was written in the bible a year would have meant a different amount of days.

What's the Watchtower's current stance on...
by FifthOfNovember inthe big bang?
-do they leave room for it as a possibility for jehovah to have created the universe?
(i heard an elder say once that the society doesn't necessarily rule out the big bang as a possiblity).

Even though they have now changed their view that each creative day is not 7,000 years but eons of time they have not clearly stated whether they still view the 7th day as still only 7,000 years.

HEAR YE HEAR YE: DID STEVE UNTHANK'S LEGAL ACTION CAUSE MORE THAN A RIPPLE?
by steve2 inhear ye, hear ye, there's not much to report..... a few weeks ago, we were alerted on this forum to australian ex-jw mr steve unthank's pending legal proceedings against the watchtower society on the grounds that the society - alone among organized religious groups - had refused to comply with the state of victoria's 2007 legislation requiring all those who work with children to undergo police checks.
those of us who read more widely noticed the inflammatory religiosity of the edict mr unthank furnished for the court's pleasure.
in trumped up language befitting someone who seemed to think he was destined for an important role in the scheme of things, mr unthank demanded that the watchtower society apologize - and the wording suggested he expected the society would indeed be orderedvia the court to apologize to a worldwide audience.

Ugetthat was very quick to respond. He's been to visit him today and provided his phone number on the public website but I don't like to repeat it here. The link to the thread is

I think it is also available on his website www.jwmedia.net
Ugetthat sounds very enthusiastic and says Steven Unthank told him the case will be filed (stamped) on Wednesday and also says "that the Governing Body, Faithfull and Discrete Slave, Bethel Elders and such will be Indicted. First time ever.'

Thanks for the update Steve2, I've been following some posts on the topix forum and there is a guy there who posts using the name Ugetthat that makes some unusual claims. He's been accused of being Steven Unthink and that claim seems fairly accurate. This is one of his posts
"Criminal Charges HAVE been filed in the Victorian Courts. Done this week. Yes they do Work With Children according to Victorian Law. This is not bullcrap as there was a letter read out to all Victorian Congregations February 2010 which told JW's to get the Working With Children Check, but exempted Elders and MS. If you were a Victorian Resident and familiar with Victorian Law and Law Definitions, you would understand. The Department of Justice released the numbers of JW's with the check under the freedom of information law. Only 73. The JW's also have a DUTY OF CARE under Law to make sure all members who need the check, have it. As it now before the Courts, and the Department of Public Prosicution are gavering evidence for their case, there will be very little Media Involvement until arrests are made, which from what Ive been told, very shortly. So keep your uninformed, uneducated comments to yourself. I have nothing to prove to silly people who think its an attack against the JW's, as I am one, and want to protect my 2 children."
After some questioning he stated that the criminal charges that were filed were done at the Police Station. (You cannot do that in Australia as you can only lodge a claim of criminal activity and hope the police investigate it). On a previous post he also stated that there had been several claims filed in various police stations in Victoria but the reporting system is up the creek so they haven't been able to get a handle on the amount of reports lodged).
After being questioned as to whether he was Steven Unthink he says he did some research about him and got into contact with him. He said Steven wasn't able to file his case on the date he had anticipated due to there being a long weekend here in Australia and would be filing it this week.
This Ugetthat claims he is a JW living in Victoria and seems to be a bit wild with his other claims. As you can see above he also claims that there will be arrests made but as far as I am aware there has been no-one arrested for not complying to date and the legislation only applies penalties.
