by Dogpatch infrom: http://www.freeminds.org/blogs/musings-of-a-watchtower-insider/memories-of-max-larson.html.
barb anderson's memories of max larson.
theres much to be remembered about max larson, but for me, there were two things that i remember the mostthe wonderful timbre of his speaking voice and his strange-looking, very long eyebrow hairs that grew every which way.

Thanks for the story. What amazes me is that he retained the position of President of the WTBTS up to his death (and beyond until it is adjusted) expecially if he had dimentia. This was mean his position was one in name only and is a rather strange thing to do if they insist they don't glorify any man.
I am interested to know more about Barbara's and Joe's son. How long did he stay at Bethel, did he marry, have children and what he is currently doing? That's if it is not too personal.

Victoria, Australia: WTBTS and GB of JWs have shown themselves to be "GUILTY" respecting previous noncompliance with Working With Children Laws
by AndersonsInfo inthe watch tower society, the christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses, the faithful and discreet slave, and the governing body of jehovah's witnesses, last week issued a "special" letter to all bodies of elders in the state of victoria instructing them to immediately apply for their working with children licenses and to comply with child protection laws.
the letter includes instructions that the contents are not to be made public or shared with members of the congregation.. .
this means an investigation authorized by the governing body of jehovah's witnesses and initiated by lawyers representing the watch tower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, inc. have concluded that the victorian working with children act 2005 and the associated child protection laws do indeed apply to all elders serving in congregations throughout the state of victoria both in the public ministry and in their internal ministry, which includes the theocratic ministry school.. .

Thanks Barbara for clarifying about your information source. It is appreciated that you do report in a clear and concise manner and obvious that in your own research you aim to do this.
__________
The Victorian WWC check is not just a check on whether the applicant has engaged in pedophilia in the past but is more comprehensive, it is a criminal check and goes beyond just a police check. It includes:
"Broadly, the criminal offences of most significance for a WWC Check are:
- serious sexual offences
- serious violent offences
- serious drug-related offences
- offences against the Working With Children Act 2005 itself."
It is possible that there would be elders in their position which have committed crimes in the past and have not informed the organisation and will not pass the WWC.
It is great legislation and means that instead of the org claimining that what they didn't know about an elder in the past couldn't hurt them but now it does and they will need to be more responsible.

It would be interesting to see this letter that was sent to the elders. where is the information coming from that this was the case?
I hate to say this but I worry that applying for the WWC will make no difference to the appointment of elders. If Bethel has sent a letter to the elders instructing them to apply for a WWC one would think it would also contain instructions of what to do if an elder was not able to obtain one. It is also claimed that they are not to make the instructions known to the R & F. It may be that they will still allow an elder to retain his position (and possibly advise him not to participate in the ministry school or any one on one activities with a child). It is possible that only Bethel and the elder/s will know that he does not have the certificate and it would only be up to a Government authority to do a close examination for any non compliance in the individual elders case. Bethel could still maintain their position that the individual elder was not working with children. Also as they see the positions of elders as being appointed by the 'holy spirit' they may feel it is applicable to uphold theocratic warfare and take the stand that God's will overrules any man made law in this case.
So even if they are applying for the WWC the purpose of them being required to do so may be in vein.

Why do Jehovahs Witnesses preach from house to house?
by mankkeli inthis explanation is extracted from the reasoning book, page 205. .
jesus foretold for our day this work: this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.
he also instructed his followers: go .

As they are told to bring the message of the WTBTS it reinforces their message through repitition. It also occupies more of their time instead of examining the original message.

Should There be a Petition Asking the Watchtower Society to Retract its "Mentally Diseased" Statements?
by DT inof course, i would be very surprised if the watchtower society ever retracted or apologised for anything.
still, it could gain a lot of publicity and put pressure on them to curb their hate speech.
if they refuse to apologise, it could demonstrate that those statements were intentional and not just a slip of the printing press.

DT I personally think that what you suggest is a very mature approach. In cases of dispute or disagreement, it is often suggested that your first approach would be to try and remedy the situation with the perpertrator.
You have hit on a very good point about metal diseases not being contagious. It is possible to argue that a mental condition can cause others to be affected but not a disease. This also shows that their own NWT of this scripture is wrong.

by Quarterback injust recently the org has changed the literature distribution to the congregation members.. the changes are:.
1) publishers are to pick-up their mag's weekly in preparation for what they think they will use that week.

Is it possible that they will become more secretive and stop publishing the study mag on their website?

From the OSCE website comes this document dated 2004. It is headed
"NGO RIGHTS AND THEIR PROTECTION UNDER INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS LAW - JEREMY McBRIDE"NGO RIGHTS AND THEIR PROTECTION UNDER INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS LAW -
It states in part -
The activities of non-governmental organisations are generally recognised as an important element not only in the initial establishment of a genuine democracy but also in ensuring that, once achieved, it remains healthy and flourishing 1
. The contribution which such organisations make is often political in the broader and non-party sense but it is also manifestedin their pursuit of a vast array of interests - such as culture, recreation, sport and social and humanitarian assistance, to say nothing of the rights of those at work and the simple personal fulfilment of those who belong to the bodies concerned – that underpin the vitality of civil society. However, the essential role played by non-governmental organisations, although not open to question, is not one that is appreciated by all States at all times, not least because it does entail an unambiguous commitment to democracy. Nonetheless realising and sustaining such a commitment is an objective of paramount importance for global and regional organisations such as the United Nations, the African Union, the Council of Europe, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe and the Organisation of American States and it is thus not surprising that provisions guaranteeing and promoting the rights of non-governmental organisations have readily found a place in many of the instruments adopted by all these bodies.
The principal basis for securing the position of non-governmental organisations rests upon the guarantee of freedom of association but there are also a limited number of instruments...."
This is an interesting article because it basically says that by an organisation excercising their rights to freedom they are in fact participating in the political democratic system.

That is a lot of research Barbara, thanks
Are the JWs (or their sub-entities such as the European organisation of JWs) a member or associate of the OSCE or is it a matter of them petitioning the OSCE?
