Do they notice who no longer gives donations?
by onightdivine inbecause i haven't put in a single dime for over a year now in the box at the kh.
the usual custom is to put money in there right after the meetings.
but heck, i already spend so much in car fuel just to attend - i don't care really if the gb starves and dies.. oops.. anyway, do the elders take note who's donating and who's not?.

I hardly ever saw anyone put money into the box because I didn't look. If someone notices that you haven't donated then they must be keeping watch on everyone which makes them look pretty bad if they were to say anything. -

Watchtowers million dollar scam
by GeddyLee inback in the late eighties i was on the committee to build our cities new double kingdom hall so that all five halls would be under one roof.
we needed to come up with five hundred thousand dollars to complete the new hall, so we had a kingdom hall fund drive where the local brothers would raise the needed funds.
after two years we had collected the half million dollars, and guess where that money went????????

Crazyguy, more than likely, dropping interest charges were due to changes in legislation. If they were loaning money and requiring interest then they would be seen to be a loan company and be subject to stringent requirements and possibly taxation. It is possible that legislation was further refined and it didn't matter if they were charging interest or not.

JW Sister: raped, pregnant what does she do?, abortion or adoption?
by Olivia Wilde inthis question came out frequently from a situation known to some of us who knew of 2 cases.... if a single or married sister gets rapped by stranger or incest, a pregnancy results, she is not allowed to have an abortion but neither is she allowed to give it up for adoption?...i always question why not up for adoption?...
no you will be blood guilty because the child won't be raised in the "truth"... hmmmmm does anyone heard of that?
is it a matter of consciousness?

Here's a link to a JW section of an adoption forum.
https://adoption.com/forums/thread/331698/jehovah-039-s-witness-looking-to-adopt-from-foster-care/
On person mentions that there is an Awake article that supports single JW females adopting children but they don't say which Awake it was.
Another person states that a person who wants to adopt their child out can specify that they only want their child to go to persons of a particular religion.
I knew of a Canadian JW couple that adopted an Asian girl because they weren't able to have one naturally. The JW girl became pregnant when she was about 18 and still single. The father was also a JW, his father was an elder. The Canadian couple adopted the child.

Shunning legal since 1987
by TheWonderofYou inlegality[edit].
in june 1987, the united states court of appeals for the 9th circuit upheld the witnesses' right to shun those who fail to live by the group's standards and doctrines, upholding the ruling of a lower court, finding that "shunning is a practice engaged in by jehovah's witnesses pursuant to their interpretation of canonical text, and we are not free to reinterpret that text ... the defendants are entitled to the free exercise of their religious beliefs ... the members of the church [she] decided to abandon have concluded that they no longer want to associate with her.
we hold that they are free to make that choice."[99][100].

The WTBTS is being challenged in Sweden because of some of their practices, including shunning. The org. is still fighting to be recognized as a religion and receive all the benefits that come with it, including taxation and Government Funding.

I came across this talk when looking at the large archive of Public Talks available on line. Instead of starting a new thread with the link I thought it was better to resurrect this thread. It includes the whole transcript of the talk and more background information.
Although the Brother says that the Society has made it clear in the publications that Armageddon will occur in 1975 as only a possibility most of his talk is based on the idea that it will happen. He states clearly that the door will be shut before 1975 and if you aren't inside the organization then you will not be saved.
The source that can be used if you want to show it to a JW begins here (it is under the 1967 Spring Circuit Assembly)
http://www.centralprint.net/jwtalks/Circuit/CircuitPrograms.html
The next link from there brings you to the Assembly program
http://www.centralprint.net/jwtalks/Circuit/1967SpringCA.html
This is a link to the talk which was the last talk of the three day Assembly
Another link to the talk is the last one on this list
http://muzyabra.com/mp3/serving-with-everlasting-life-in-view-download.html
This is a Youtube link but wouldn't be JW friendly and the sound is not as good

Hidden From Jehovah's Witness videos
by Vortex inthis video deal with some really important information that i wanted to share with you all, looks like it may have hit a nerve in the watchtower, because the stock link he mentioned in the video has been taken down, it was up yesterday, he says he plays chess and anticipated they would do that, so he supplied a secondary link to the same information.
the entire 8 part series is very informative exposing alot about watchtower doctrine, and hidden elements.
here is the link to the video.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0lrdx3vpug.

They cannot control where the money is invested but they accept themselves as a beneficiary of the trust. In other words, they directly benefit from the investments of the trust.
They could choose to remove themselves from the trust and have nothing to do with it.

Are The Governing Body Anointed?
by freemindfade infor any lurkers, i just want to put a thought out there for you.
like me maybe during your life as a jw the "thing" that causes someone to know if they are anointed was always a bit of mystery, except to those who claimed they knew.
i had heard it explained to me many ways, and like many things i just said "ok, well thats an answer... i guess".

By declaring themselves as anointed they have admitted that God has sent them a special message that was specifically to them. There is no reason why God would not also convey to them other bible truths in the same manner. Every time they change teachings proves that this is not happening. We only have their word for it that they are anointed and their word is inaccurate. -

You're right fmf. Jesus was not commending the widow for what she had done.
Once again the scripture is taken out of context and the earlier verses confirm what you wrote
Mark 12
38 As he taught, Jesus said, “Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, 39 and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. 40 They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.”
The Widow’s Offering
41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
