Why are anniversaries allowed but not birthdays?

the scripture quotes aside, i was always told that we don't celebrate birthdays because that is a celebration of the self, which has no place in jehovah's organization.

then why celebrate anniversaries?

anniversary celebrations are about the joining of two selves, isn't that twice as selfish?.

They have made rules regarding Wedding Anniversaries. They want them to be modest and small celebrations if they are going to be celebrated in the first place.

not one but four witnesses at my door

having not had a witness knock on my door since i left over 13 years ago i was surprised a few sunday mornings ago to find two young sisters who i had not seen before at my door.

it was not long before their husbands who were witnessing at my neighbors joined the conversation.

the conversation went on for some time so i am keeping the experience as brief as i can.. mind you with all what has been happening lately with the australian royal commission here in australia i had been looking forward to having a discussion with any witness who comes within earshot.

That's great Gerry. That took a lot of courage, strange isn't it, you were there speaking truth to them yet it was still difficult to start with. They have back up, usually just one person but in your case, another three, so it's no wonder your heart was pounding.

I agree Punkofnice when will the Governing Body get it?

It's more than the 'proper time' for them to make changes and to apologize to all those that have been damaged from their irresponsible policies.

So Today Was My Wife's First Ever Birthday Party

she turned one today, and 36 earlier this week.

we planned a big party, big for two people that have never thrown a party before.

we rented a church fellowship hall because 1. it was nice and big and affordable and 2. it was kind of awesome to throw a party in a place we would have never ventured in our previous life.

Is it me or were the experiences at the assemblies really contrived?

my favorite were the ones where they were reading a wt publication in the break room at work, and an inquisitive co-worker, thirsty for spiritual knowledge approaches them.

this leads to an informal witness, which eventually leads to bible study and baptism.. in all my years of working, i've never had anyone show the slightest bit of interest in what i was reading while i was on my break at work.

but as i said, maybe it's just me..

One of the latest videos on JW TV is the Miconesia Branch Report. The experience related is another contrived fairytale.

There was a couple who decided they would contribute $20 US dollars per month to the org. This one month the couple's expenses were $80 more than what they took in but they were resolved to stick with their commitment and contributed their normal $20 to the org. Low and behold, BOTH of the won the employee of the month. Part of the prize included a monetary reward. Can you guess how much that was? You're absolutely right -$50 each.

Maybe it was the way I retold it, but it was more believable coming from the Branch Office Elder ;).

Fiddler, my guess is that he expected your typed transcript to be perfect and that he could use it just as it was. When he realised he would have to reword it and get it typed again he was frustrated and took it out on you. He was rude and bossy. You probably ended up saving yourself from being called upon by him again in the future, so the laugh is really on him.

I doubt a word for word transcript would have read well enough to be used for a 'press release' and would have needed some work to tidy it up anyway.

I used to practice my shorthand at the meetings, it was purely to get my speed up and not for transcribing. Another benefit was relieving the boredom.

6 and i heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, a measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.. this prophecy starts to be true in south europe bethels..... according to our sources, bethel families have been asked to reduce their food allowance and even been informed that monthly contribution might not be paid.. meantime, one of these branches is sending millions of € every year as donation to other wt structures, not to mention the 7 digit number on their bank account.

bethel members are not blind ;).

They're rebelling against the organization SP74bb, it can't end well. Maybe the organization is just keeping them pacified for the time being so that it can send them their marching orders when the org. has made other arrangements and doesn't need them any more.

If the Spain Bethel family views this as a win then they may be in for bigger shocks.

last april, the pa attorney general’s office established a toll-free phone number for survivors of child sex abuse (who were pa residents, or were abused by someone in pa) to call if they wanted to file a report of being sexually abused or molested as a child under 18 no matter how long ago the abuse happened or no matter who committed the abuse.. .

the ag’s office is asking victims from all the places/institutions and all the alleged criminals that have literally gotten away with soul murder.

hopefully, the ag’s office will be able to take further steps to expose the criminals and the criminal institutions that aided and abetted the perps.. .

Awareness - While your specific abuse may have happened so long ago that there is no criminal or civil charges you can file, by your identifying perps and complicit institutions now, other victims may gain the courage to come forward once they realize they were not the only one abused by their perp.

I don't understand how other victims would get to know that they were not the only one abused by a particular perp. simply by making a report to the PA's Attorney General's office. Particularly since the perp. will not be charged for anything.
