JWs @ The Movies: Did you ever...
by Open mind in...know the exact layout of lower manhattan so that whenever a bethel building even momentarily flashed upon the screen you'd go "look, look, it's the watchtower!!".
.
about the only cool thing about jws was the awesome chunks of real estate they had in brooklyn heights.. .

My dad used to do that. He'd get all excited and rewind it to make sure we saw it.
I remember a pretty liberal elder owned Braveheart. Historical violence is okay, but not sex, lol! He would hide it out of sight if he knew someone weak was coming over. I used to sneak R-rated movies home and download them off Kazaa. When they started saying from the platform Lord of the Rings was demonic...that was about the time I'd had enough. My mom still took us to see everyone of those movies in the theatre. She thought it was pretty ridiculous too. And yeah, we were careful who we told, especially since dad was an elder.

JW's are not nice people
by Nickolas ini cut and pasted the subject line from a comment made by one of this board's longtime members.
it got me wondering if this is the prevalent thinking in here.
for a very long time i believed that jw's and all fundamentalist christian folk are a cut above the norm.

I think they're mostly good people, too. But when you claim to be the one true religion, God's organization on Earth directed by his holy spirit, and the happiest people on earth; it's really unsettling when you see them do some very bad things. Makes you wonder.
As far as the cult personality: I remember being so upset that two kids my age, I was about 14, were marked as bad association. They're father was an unbeliever and they didn't fall in line on some things, mostly dress and music. I watched them go further and further away and wanted so much to help them. I remember asking my dad why I couldn't be friends with them to try and help them. Well bad association spoils useful habits. So they got left out in the cold, I can fully understand why they wanted nothing to do with the truth. Where's the love in that? A couple years ago, the girl died when she wrecked her car, driving under the influence of meth. That's just a horrible way to treat people, especially children.

Brothers Be Happy - WT Study for October 25-32, Earnestly Seek Jehovah's Blessing...
by jgnat init's no good just to go through the motions.
to achieve jehovah's blessings, the brothers and sisters must have the right heart motivation; to conduct their work in joy and love and remind themselves that the load is not burdensome.. but what if the work is boring and burdensome?
what if in the organization and scheduling of "god's organization", the spirit of the law has been lost?.

If given a secret ballot, how many would check a box labeled "my field service work is my life's greatest joy"?
Oh, I think many would check it. But isn't that how they're told to feel? How many realize they're lying to themselves? I used to pioneer, I used to feel that way. I was helping people! But nevermind that there are far more effective ways to reach people and help people that don't involve angry householders, scary dogs, or so much money and time. If the point is to spread the good news of the kingdom so everyone can hear it, how many people do you actually talk to going door to door? Are you really reaching everyone that way?

Ex JW, Fader and 'Conscious Class' Map
by Mickey mouse inhttp://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=utf8&msa=0&msid=116388890922269468211.0004938b3329a3f3d0927&ll=54.876607,1.538086&spn=13.940068,39.506836&z=5.
i've created a map in google maps for people to mark their location, you don't have to put your real identity if you don't want to.. you need to sign in with a google account, click the 'edit' button and then drop a marker on your location.
add a photo if you like!.

This is a great idea! Love seeing all those blue markers! I'm in, not my real location, but near there.

Every publisher must pay for assembly costs???
by sacolton injust saw this posted on watchtower uncensored .... .
want to hear the latest debacle?
the po in my mom's congregation told them that at the next 1-day-assembly it will be the responsibility of every publisher to put 3 in the box towards the running costs at the assembly hall.
-
DanaBug
How long before they start passing the plate to make sure everyone chips in? Has anyone else heard this? I'm wondering if this PO is going overboard or if it's directed by the GB.
Off topic--when did they start 1 day assemblies? I don't remember those. I remember 2 day assemblies and 3 day conventions. Did the 1 days replace 2 days?

The org says that the resurrected ones to earth will be neither female nor male (and we are not to speculate the good and bad of this). But it means their purpose on earth will be different.
Where's that in the Bible? I'm not trying to be argumentative, I just want to see that for myself.

A thought just occured to me ,did angels have free will? What was the test the angels had to undergo???What was the penalty for angels who failed the test ?? If you compare the horrendous outcome for humans, compared to the angelic species, their is no comparison!!! So then who is going to rule with Christ over mankind??Imperfect human beings?? 144000 ??So who do you think would be more authourised to do so ??Angels???
I'm curious about this too. Do angels have free will? What do JW's believe?

An anointed person just knows. It's between them and God. There's no way for anyone else to verify it or disprove it. A 15 year old could probably expect some counseling from the elders to make sure he understands what it means. But if a 15 yr old can dedicate his life to God, I see no reason he couldn't also be anointed.
Personally, heaven never appealed to me. The way they describe it sounds sooo boring. Except for the Lovely Bones version, I like that idea. The living forever....yeah, I don't think I want that either. I'd like more than 70 years on this earth but not forever. Whenever I asked as a child what it would be like I was told, we won't really know until it happens. But having a perfect mind and body leaves a lot of possibilities. Who knows what the mind is capable of when it can be used at full capacity?
