Looks Like This High School Wins The Year of The Scrooge Award
by Yizuman inchristmas sweater club punished at local high schoolsubmitted by wusa9 web staff on monday, december 20th, 7:59 pmmanassas, va. (wusa) -- they call themselves the "christmas sweater club" because they wear the craziest ones they can find.
they also sing christmas songs at school and try their best to spread christmas cheer.. now all 10 of them are in trouble because of what they did at their school.. "they said, 'maliciously maim students with the intent to injure.
' and i don't think any of us here intentionally meant to injure anyone, or did," said zakk rhine, a junior at battlefield high school.. the boys say they were just tossing small two-inch candy canes to fellow students as they entered school.

To those who believe in an afterlife reward, what is the big deal about death?
by ThomasCovenant inmuslims and christians, and probably most other religions i suspect, seem to believe in a happy afterlife which is inevitably better and longer lasting than this one on earth.
so what is wrong with dying and death here now?
why the terrible grief at the death of loved ones?

Yep, Tec said it perfectly.
We just went to a funeral of a devout Southern Baptist friend. First time I heard a baptist preacher. Wow! What a contrast to a JW funeral. There was so much emotion, it was so human. There were two emotions expressed, pain at the loss of a dearly loved man and joy that he was with his God now. Kind of weird to say, but I loved that funeral. They were celebrating and grieving at the same time. I found it really beautiful.

Did your parents make you tell people (at xmas time) that you got gifts throughout the year
by myusername ini see people saying this online.
my parents made us tell people tha we got gifts throughout the year and that we probably got more presents than kids get on birthdays and christmas.
however, it was a complete lie.

We didn't get gifts throughout the year. It's hard to do that with 4 kids and both parents pioneering. But we did each get a party and gifts when we started school. We also got gifts from friends at baptism. Our hall was really good about giving gifts when someone ended up in the hospital. My sister got a ton of stuff when she got hit by a truck. I never had a major illness or anything that landed me in the hospital, thank God. We did the anniversary gift thing twice. And I threw myself a party when I graduated high school. My parents got me a cd player for my car. My brother got a car for his graduation. I'm still pissed about that, lol! They also bought him a Gibson SG and a Peavey amp for helping with building their house. I helped too! They didn't get me anything. I have to say though, my mom was pretty good about getting us little things she knew we would like, when we had the extra money. But it was nowhere near what my daughter gets now for birthdays and Christmas.
I can't wait for Christmas! My daughter, who's 3, wants to be a ballerina. So we got her the whole outfit, dancing scarves, and ballerina dvds. It's gonna be so much fun! My parents missed out on so much, I feel bad for them.

Will jws be at your and your neighbor's doorstep this Saturday?
by blondie ini would think that a portion of the non-jw population might be at church.
i don't think there are any football games that day.
what would you say or recommend to your non-jw neighbors?.

They always skip my door! I told my friends next door to just say your not interested as many times as it takes until they leave. And never take anything from them because they'll keep coming back.

I am a bit poetic and sentimental tonight and could use some support
by recovering inonly earth wind and sky last forever they say.
the grim reaper has a debt he wishes me to pay.
i fear not death, for he is not a proud entity.

You and me both! I love the last two lines of your poem. There's always that. It always comes down to love, doesn't it? The only thing in our control.

Could you ever go back?
by MrFreeze innot that i'm thinking about it, even for a brief nano-second, but something i have thought about is this, is there any way you could go back and not have people look at you with the stink eye?
after admitting your true feelings, how in the world could people ever look at you the same?
if you were in the situation of welcoming someone back, would you be able to look past the errors?

I would go back if two things happened: 1. They stop disfellowshipping and shunning. 2. They realize they're wrong about blood transfusions and allow them.
I don't think either of those things will happen in my lifetime. And the only reason I would return would be to have my family back. But unless they change those things, I can't. I won't risk my daughter for that.

Are Faith and Reason Compatible? Jan Awake
by DanaBug inhere's some quotes from that article:.
the bible says, for example, that if your worship is to be acceptable to god, it must be a sacred service with your power of reason.
in other words, you must worship god in a way that is worthy of thinking beings.

As a JW, I would leaf through the mags and read what caught my eye. I didn't read the mags as much as I was told to, but when I did read something outside of studying, it was usually out of the Awake.
Mr. Monroe,
That's a great list. Saving that!

Lol! I don't remember the water canopy. I know that the story of creation in Genesis is exactly how the Babylonians believed the world was made, the firmament of the sky with doors that open and land floating on top of water, etc.
So seriously, they believe there was a water canopy that would have blocked out the sun?

Charlotte,
This book might help too! You might be able to find it a library.
Jehovah's Witnesses: Portrait of a Contemporary Religious Movement by Andrew Holden
In this academic study, Holden, a British sociologist, attempts to understand why the strict and austere Watch Tower Society continues to enjoy rapid growth. This is neither a primer on the danger of "cults" nor an endorsement of the Witnesses' distinctive beliefs, but a balanced ethnography that draws upon interviews with both adherents and ex-members to help readers understand what it is like to be part of the Society.
