Wouldn't lowering the bar cause them more problems later on? I wonder if they've thought this one through.

4/15/11 Watchtower--quote on ministerial servants
by sd-7 inso did anyone notice the statement on page 11, paragraph 11?
"if a brother has been baptized at least one year and to a reasonable degree meets the scriptural qualifications fo rministerial servants outlined at 1 timothy 3:8-13, he can be recommended for appointment.
" i thought paul specifically warned against appointing a "newly converted man"?

Who or What Helped YOU Get Out Of The Watchtower Mindset?
by minimus inwas there a person, a book, a situation that helped you see that the "truth" was not what it was supposed to be?

When I got df'd, I also got kicked out of my parents' house. I stayed on several friends couches. These people had known me for less than 4 months, and they offered. One friend let me stay at his apartment while he was out of the country. He barely knew me.
It took a while before I realized what that meant. People I had known all my life turned their backs on me after an announcement, people I barely knew offered me the help I needed, just because I needed it. That's unconditional love right there.

Hey little can'tleave! Meetings always bored me too. I spent most of them pretending my hands were dinosaurs, battling each other on the armrests or my lap, lol!
Your Christmas decoration plans sound awesome! There's a place here that has tons of lights and decorations ever year. I hope the photo works. It's huge! You can make out one house, and there's another outside the photo to the left. The whole place is covered with lights and decorations. It's awesome!
It didn't work. Here's the link, if you want to check it out.
Are you going to play any sports this year?

Can the Earth's Ecology Withstand A "New World" as Conceived By JWs?
by Room 215 ina recent national geographic article pointed out the ominous implications of any continued explosive global growth population even as it approaches 7 billion... what about the planet's capacity to house anything like the numbers jws expect to see resurrected onto their "new earth?
".

Jehovah will make nearby planets habitable and teach them how to build spaceships to travel to them.

Am I wrong or would I have better chances for "Paradise earth" if I had never been exposed to the so called "Truth"?
by KristiKay ini was listening to a guy on youtube, (21 crosscheck 21) and i thought he brought up a pretty valid point.
he says jws should stop preaching immediatly because according to them if i've never heard the "truth" then god would read my heart and i would be resurrected and given the chance to live forever.
so basicly if some idiot knocks on my door trying to tell me the "good news" and for whatever reason i slam the door in their face, i've just condemed myself to eternal nothingness, but if they never came to the door in the first place, i'd be ok, or at least given the chance to pet lions forever?

Yep. And if you were baptized in and left, you're a dog returning to your vomit; and you have no chance unless you return. Nice, isn't it? Funny thing is the Bible never mentions being part of an organization as a requirement for salvation. Not once.
There was a JW email forward going around about how the angels make note of the heart condition or response of each person's door* that's knocked on. Which begs the question of why anyone needs to knock on doors, the angels could just fly around making notes on people. Waste of time, I think.
*Edited: The person's heart, not the door's.

It's time for both sides to calm down, shut up, and start listening.
Start listening to who?
In a democracy, the people they represent. No one's been listening to us for a very long time.

There is a double standard at play, but we already know that. It's when they start exploiting a heinous massacre for partisan purposes before emergency personnel can even arrive on the scene (and before anyone even knows any facts) that it becomes truly screwed up.
This is true. There's no proof that Loughner was right wing or particularly interested in politics. But notice how people have made the connection between the shooting and the rhetoric we've heard the past few years. Doesn't that suggest something's wrong? And both sides are to blame.
One thing we can take from this: In the end, it doesn't matter what Loughner's politics were, what matters is we recognize that violence doesn't work, gets us no where, and disgusts all of us. That includes violent words. It's time for both sides to calm down, shut up, and start listening. I'm interested to see who actually does that.

Why Chinese Mothers are Superior
by skeeter1 inbelow is a wall street journal article on oriental parenting.
see similarities to jw parenting?
be in a school play.

What Chinese parents understand is that nothing is fun until you're good at it. To get good at anything you have to work, and children on their own never want to work, which is why it is crucial to override their preferences. This often requires fortitude on the part of the parents because the child will resist; things are always hardest at the beginning, which is where Western parents tend to give up.
I thought I agreed with this until I read it again. While it's true you have to practice to be good at anything, there are lots of things I found fun the first time I tried it. They didn't always stay fun and sometimes wound up frustrating, but that's when I take a break and come back to it later. That's not giving up, that's getting rid of frustration so you can come back to it with more patience.
This style wouldn't work at all with my daughter. She watches how you do something, over and over, for a while, then all of a sudden she does it. We bought here an easel for Christmas and she asked me for about a week to write the alphabet out for her while she sang it. We did it over and over and over. And then one day, she picked up a marker and wrote her first letters. That's how she learns. My screaming and yelling at her will not make her do it, in fact will have the opposite effect.
And that piano piece? The daughter wouldn't have eventually gotten it down without the screaming, threats, and insults? I don't see the need for it at all.
This is just so strange to me, but that's probably a given, since I'm a Western mom.

I've always wondered: if Jesus chose the FD&S in 1919 because of the spiritual food they were providing, why have I never read or studied publications from then? If what was taught back then is now untrue/old light, why were they chosen? Would Jesus choose a group that was teaching non-truths? And if what they are teaching now is different than what they were teaching when they were chosen, how does Jesus feel about it now?
I don't know if you can use that, but I've always wanted to ask an active JW that.

Do you think there are hoarders living in Africa or some 3rd world area? Is this a mental problem because of our culture or just a mental problem period?
