Oh I agree. God reads hearts, He's merciful and understands our intentions and nature. A big determining factor of what religion you are, is where you were born. I can't believe a loving, merciful God would damn people who grew up differently, thought differently, and understood God differently. Same goes for Witnesses, especially those that were raised in it.

Went to a strange funeral today
by startingover inwent to a funeral today for a lady that has not been associated with the jw's for many years, and her husband has probably just been on the fringe of association, their children have been out for a long time.
so they had the funeral at a funeral home, the place was full of family, jw's and other friends.
in the newspaper obituary they referred to it as a celebration of life.

That does sound strange for a JW and a KH.
I've never thought about it though, why wouldn't a JW say God bless you?

Generation Teaching - Everyone is speechless?
by Red Piller inmaybe the effect of this change is bigger than realized?
in 1995, it was discussed (positively) by everybody, during the week we studied the wt.
one elder stepped down and was looked down upon.

You cannot possibly know what I believe until you either me what I believe or you ask someone else, who is one of Jehovah's Witnesses (maybe, your wife) to tell you what we believe, because in this very thread, I'm hearing nonsense from former Jehovah's Witnesses that make the false accusation that we were making predictions as to when the end of the world when we were touting "1914-the generation that will not pass away," which is not true, and is conjecture on their part since their knowledge of the Bible was incomplete and they evidently thought that they could scheme their way to salvation by pretending to love God. Those that know Jehovah would never think that he or she would actually fool the Almighty. Only a fool would think that he or she would be successful in such an endeavor.
For those here that think people making statements based upon their understanding that something was true before discovering whether or not what they believed to be true was, in fact, true, I bring you a few quotes from what political leaders here in the US and elsewhere had stated before the US declared war on Iraq, people that had wrongly understood something to be true that turned out not to have been true, and had persuaded not just US citizens that what they were about to do was "payback for 9/11" when Iraq had nothing to do with what occurred to us here in the US in 2001, but which no one has characterized as a prediction. Our nation's leaders were just flat wrong and mistakenly spent national treasure and human lives in pursuit of something that didn't exist.
Interesting comparison!
Don't waste your fruitage of the spirit on any of us, dear eggnog.

... also, here are some very informative videos to give you an idea about some of the illogical things a Witness believes.
http://www.watchtowercomments.com/
not a jw, please please take special note of the video on that site about child baptism. I was baptized at the age of 12 and was disfellowshipped.
But you have to be careful in how you deal with this. The books and websites wannabefree suggested are great resources to learn about this religion and how to go about protecting your son. You'll learn a lot on this forum and I also suggest Jehovah's Witness Recovery. And the biggest thing your son will learn from is your example and how you interact with him and others as compared to how your wife and the congregation does. He's lucky he gets to see both sides.

Satan the Devil was in idiot
by sabastious inlets check out his track record (according to the witnesses).. 1. first, he decides to rebel against the most powerful entity in existence that is omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent.
which of course, will doom him to failure the second he begins.. 2. then he starts his brilliant plan to trick eve as a talking snake, interesting how that worked out since snakes don't talk.
(good thing eve was more stupid than satan).. 3. next he bets against god (again) with job.

There were moments of dreams I was offered to save
I live less like a workhorse, more like a slave
I thought that one quick moment that was noble or brace
Would be worth the most of my life.
So I pointed my fingers, and shout a few quotes I knew
As if something that's written should be taken as true
But every path I have taken and conclusion I drew
Would put truth back under the knife.
And now the only piece of advice that continues to help:
Is anyone that's making anything new only breaks something else.So I took what I wanted and put it out of my reach
I wanted to pay for my successes with all my defeats,
And if heaven was all that was promised to me
Why don't I pray for death?
And now it seems like the unraveling has started too soon,
Now I'm sleeping in hallways and I'm drinking perfume
And I'm speaking to mirrors and I'm howling at moons
While the worse and the worse that it gets.
Oh you can judge all the world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back. -

I had similar experiences too. We moved to a cong we used to visit on summer vacations. We were gossiped about, slandered, and shunned by most of the cong, even elders; all our problems were instigated by an MS and elder's son. My dad claims our experiences in that cong where unusual. From what I've seen and read, they were pretty common. The great cong that we moved to afterwards was unusual, lol! I wish I could send him all these stories so he could see for himself. Jesus said his followers would have love among themselves, agape love, completely self-less love, willing to die for each other. I've never seen that kind of love in a cong of JW's. I have seen a complete lack of love and conditional love. Maybe it was there, I just missed it.

I can either go back to the "truth" or stay out and raise a milion questions
by serenitynow! ini received this message from a jw on jwc@fe, after i asked some simple questions:"miss jada, every sentence or phrase in the bible can very easily be turned into a question.
it doesnt take much to raise questions.
even jesus himself left some questions unanswered.

@serenity I've been watching the "apostate invasion" over there, lmao! Look no further than jw c@fe for proof that it's a cult. No one answers any questions that are raised. Instead they snoop your page for proof you're a Dub and if you're not, label you an apostate or worldly. Or they quote their favorite Bible verse, even if it's not relevant to the question asked. I'm disappointed. I always thought the JW's were pretty good at defending their faith. I thought it would be fun to debate with a JW, now I'm just sad. Oh well, maybe those conversations over there will open some eyes.

Would you do a mind-meld with other people? Who? Any conditions?
by Markfromcali injust for fun, i guess the idea of the vulcan mind-meld is the most popular idea, although for a good visual you might think of the mental equivalent of odos people from deep space nine.
for the non-scifi geek there was that part in cocoon that might be a better reference, and that recent episode of american dad.. anyhow it's pretty much in the subject title of the post.
any filters?

Nope. There are some things people have done or think about I don't want to know about. Now, if I was a forensic psychologist or something like that, it would be an awesome ability to have.

Happy birthday, tweety!
You're sister's comment is funny. There's nothing sad about celebrating birthdays! (Except when JW's try to make you feel guilty over it.) Nothing wrong with the people who love you celebrating the day you were born. I hope you had a great birthday!
