  That's true, dgp. I know how they feel about icons and also about other faiths. I know a muslim who withdrew her donation to the community center in NY after she found out it would have chapels for other faiths. That's a problem too.

  Islam doesn't scare me any more than Christianity does. I see a lot of similarities between earlier Christianity and Islam especially in their treatment of women. But there are moderate and liberal muslims, just like in Christianity. And of course they want to convert us, just like Christians do. But this great fear that some people have about muslims, I just don't see it ever happening in this country. Extremism may not be the entire problem with Islam, there are a lot of others, but it is the problem with our fear of Islam, imo. It's like the media and politicians have an agenda to feed it. The only thing you ever hear about Islam or muslims is examples of extremism and totalitarian Middle Eastern goverments. And then people base their opinions of Muslim Americans off that, even though it's not the whole picture.

  Monotheist faiths are intolerant by virtue of their very basic belief.

  I totally agree. They have the same mindset, Christianty has had more time to tone it down. I would love to see all religions just vanish. But I can't stand to see people harassed or discriminated against because of their religion. It goes against everything this country is supposed to stand for. Thought we would have learned by now.

  1) i think it's ridiculous to tell anyone when and how to use something they paid for ( computers and internet service ).

  2) i think it's ridiculous to tell married couples how to act in the bedroom.

  3) i think it's ridiculous to tell people what kinda cars they should buy ( 4 door for fieldservice ).

  I think it's ridiculous to tell children everything having to do with sex or their sex organs is bad and God hates it; and then expect them to grow up and have happy marriages.

  i am referring to a personal/sexual relationship with someone, perhaps, that you could possibly love.. i know a lot of people who are very content to date, possibly have sex and look for another partner..

  Social Networks are a threat to the Watchtower Society

  in recent months there have been massive protests and demonstrations against autocratic rulers in the middle east and north africa.

  many of these were possible in part because the protesters used social media services like facebook, youtube and twitter to get the word out and let the world know what was going on.

  these services are so threatening to many governments that they're blocked in order to control their people.

  That is too cute!

  I don't know how important relationships are to me yet. I've never been the kind of girl that had to have a relationship. But I've only been in one and I'm still in it. It happened fast and I just kind of fell into it. Right now things are getting rocky, so I'm considering how important it is for me, like whether I can survive by myself if things don't work out. I've never broken up with anyone or lived on my own. I'd like to think I'd be just fine on my own, but I really don't know.

  Oh, facebook is a danger to active JWs. There used to be a lot of Witness pages that anyone could join, you'd just get kicked out if you were suspect. But they got overrun with apostates, lol! And now they're mostly private, you have to apply to join. The apostate pages are all public though.

  Faders should be very careful though. It's easy to get outed on facebook.

  ETA: Sometimes I see an active JW "debate" with apostates on there too. But it always happens, they get to a point they can't argue with and then leave and delete all their posts. Have to wonder how that affects them.

  I'd also like to point out that the group most victimized by muslim terrorists and extremists are other muslims. It's only when it happened to us that we noticed. And you can check the FBI's website for statistics on terrorist groups in this country. The ones that most affect us, that commit terroristic acts that hurt our citizens, are not muslim. It's disheartening that we've been so easily led to hate this group of people because extremists of their religion have twisted it and hurt people. It makes me ashamed of my country. It's not Islam, it's extremism in all it's forms that's the problem. The sooner everyone realizes that, the better.

  The Islamic mainstream is waaay too quiet on the Jihadists atrocities in the name of Allah.

  No, they're not! Google Islam or muslims speaking out against or denouncing terrorism. I guarantee you'll get thousands of links. Check youtube too. Then ask yourself why you've never seen that reported by anyone on any mainstream news network. That's what's troubling!

  BUT I believe that it is not in the best interests of myself and my family to live under those same precepts and so therefore when the muslim population starts to make noises in the direction of introducing their sharia law in the host country I see a distinct lack of respect for the system we choose to live under.

  This is the mistake everyone keeps making. First, Sharia law only applies to muslims. If you're not muslim, you're not under it. Second, our country guarantees us freedom of religion. We cannot make laws that establish a religion, it's not allowed period. Which muslims are you talking about that are making noises about introducing sharia here? I'm going to guess that's not true for the following reason:

  Sharia is already practiced here. Did you know that? And I don't mean stonings and honor killings, that's enforced by Middle Eastern theocracies (and ftr, many Muslim Americans do not agree that those countries are practicing Sharia, that's the way it's interpreted by those backwards governments). If they happen here, they are punished because it violates the laws of our country. Sharia encompasses what foods they eat, where they invest money, how they marry and divorce, how they're buried, how to pray, etc. It's very similar to Jewish law, and no one makes a stink about that anymore. Think about this, muslims have lived in this country for how long? During that time they've always practiced sharia. How has it affected you?

  When someone says sharia or muslims are a threat to this country, I always wonder if they really understand sharia and if they understand what rights we have in this country. And if it's something that concerns you the solution is very simple: support seperation of church and state! Everytime your fellow believers try to tear that down, they make it easier for the muslims they fear to establish as law that sharia they fear so much. I wonder if they realize that.
