Thanks for bumping GOrwell!
a quote from "crisis of conscience".
don't be afraid to read it.. .
whatever the initial distress - a distress that sometimes follows the demenaing experience of being interogated by men who, in effect strip one of dignity, make the weight of their authority felt, and presume to judge adversely one's standing with god - however torn one may feel inside, afterward there is a distinct feeling of relief, of peace.

Timothy,
I think these two articles do a fair job of presenting the Org's proof and scriptural backing and then refuting.

they are abused with calls of go home, and terrorist, little children are subjected to it as well.
a villa park councilwoman named deborah pauly echoes the rhetoric of pamela geller and even calls for the murder of participants (who she labels terrorists) at the charity event.
Im repeating for empahsis. how in thw world can peopel who left a cult defend the biggest most ruthless one on the planet?????
Do you call all of Christianity a cult because JWs are a cult? It's the same thing. There are cults in Islam, al-Queda for one, but it's false to call Islam a cult. Not all Muslims dress the same, believe the same, or live by the same rules, despite what you may have heard. How hard is that to understand? Which sect of Islam do you define as a cult?
18 if you face a similar situation, please remember that jehovah sympathizes with you.
by cutting off contact with the disfellowshipped or disassociated one, you are showing that you hate the attitudes and actions that led to that outcome.
however, you are also showing that you love the wrongdoer enough to do what is best for him or her.

mother-in-law sends my wife a thank you card because she did something nice for her mom on their 33rd wedding anniversary.
they went out to eat dinner, a cake was provided, and everyone had a good time.
frankly, all that was needed was the candles and a song and it would be no different than a birthday party.
Moshe, that's good. I'll have to remember that one.
1) i think it's ridiculous to tell anyone when and how to use something they paid for ( computers and internet service ).
2) i think it's ridiculous to tell married couples how to act in the bedroom.
3) i think it's ridiculous to tell people what kinda cars they should buy ( 4 door for fieldservice ).
Ocd, have you seen this? It's now in print.

my bother ( who i don't really talk too because of a different issue with him ) and i got disfellowshipped on the same day ( 2/28/09 ).
ive been pretty inconstant when it comes to meeting attendance ( i haven't been in more than six months ), while ever sence my brother and his wife had a baby he's been super regular at the meeting ( nine months straight without missing one meeting !).
when he turned in his reinstatement letter ( by the way he moved to a new congregation ).
It always is, unless you're "golden". The length of time is usually up to his original CBOE. He has to prove his loyalty and submisiveness.

Maybe they could celebrate the end of marriages(divorces) and the anniversaries of deaths instead?
.
did the elders ever try to "adjust" your thinking?.
can you share what they felt was incorrect about your thinking?.
Wow. I didn't know changing your shirt changed your attitude. If I had only known it was that simple.

Because it's their right, sooner. I don't defend their religion, I defend their right to live here and not be harassed because they're muslim. Just like I would defend JWs being harassed like that.
