You could, for example, substitute the word "Americans" on the basis that Americans constitute the most religious group of people on earth. Do you think Americans would find the statement insulting?

How you use language comes down to what you want to accomplish. You can use words to inflict injury, to enrage, to badger, to humiliate, to denigrate, to frighten, to punish, to educate, to encourage, to comfort, to praise and to persuade. What message do you want to convey?

The use of the pun, changing the word to convey an insult, is not especially clever. There is nothing offensive about being called a mexican. But if someone changed the label in such a way as to denigrate it (I'll leave that to your own imagination) you would not be so amused.

I get the sentiment, but try my best not to use mockery in serious conversation. Mockery is immature, lowbrow and ineffective as an instrument of persuasion. Same goes for the "Witless" label. What is the purpose if not to offend and alienate the individual it is flung at?

Lots of good advice already. Keep the dirt you have on those people to yourself. You would be perceived as a troublemaker if you revealed it because that is what you would in fact be, and to what end? You would be disbelieved by most of the people whose eyes you want to open and you would be perceived and spoken about behind your back as a liar. No, take the high road, girl, and recognise that you have some work to do emptying all that stuff you've allowed to fill the gaps in your intellect over the past six years. Don't underestimate how difficult residual Watchtower programming is to exorcise. It all sounded like sweet, joyous truth to you at one time, after all.
It is a very good thing your husband is not in. Your escape will be far less painful than it is for many. But by all means trash all the WTBTS literature you have in your house, sever ties and run, do not walk, away from the Watchtower.

What came out about Grey Owl?
His reputation was tarnished unfairly after his death. He was depicted as a poser because he was a civilised British gentleman who presented himself as a seasoned outdoorsman and he never made mention of his pampered roots. Truth be told, he accomplished much to conserve natural resources in Canada and he is being recognised for that more now. The illustration I was presenting is that nobody's immune to criticism, no matter how much he or she accomplishes in life. We need to give credit where it is due.
