A long and unexpected JW encounter

hi guys!

i pull up to my daugher's home in phoenix this morning, just got there from tucson for a visit.

and lo and behold, 2 jw are walking up the driveway.

Why do you become atheist just because one religious control group got the best of you? Is it because you feel used? Or abused? or just plain stupid? Please enlighten me on this point.
Ok, since you asked.
The answer is, of course, that it is not because of one religious group, although it started there. Once you start to question, really question, what you have been told to believe (for example, God exists, the afterlife and the hope of the Resurrection are all things that are true, and the Good News of the Kingdom, etc.) you begin to see the cracks in the entire ediface. Not used and abused, although those feelings factored into it, and stupid, well, not that either. Just the opposite, from my perspective. It takes a lot of learning to see things clearly, separating fact from fantasy, evidence from faith. Some arrive here sooner than others. For me it took more than five decades of searching to find real truth.

TV's best Series-ending episodes

and now for something a little lighter.. i enjoy well made movies and television series, especially when they push the envelope, do something different.

there are currently two tv series i'm following closely (dexter and breaking bad), both of which have great promise for spectacular endings.. here are my biased rankings for a few television series that actually wrapped up with a final episode (out of 10).

m*a*s*h, "goodbye, farewell and amen" - february 28, 1983, after eleven seasons - 7/10 (series went on too long, got stale, ending was overdue).

I've only just started watching Dexter. Just finished the first series. Wow, can't wait to watch the next.
I'm wondering if season 6 will be the last. It's a great concept, but it's starting to get a little long in the tooth.

Newhart, "The Last Newhart" - May 21, 1990, after eight seasons (it was all a dream) - 8/10
The Sopranos, "Made in America" - June 10, 2007, after an extended sixth season - 6/10 (a spectacular series that went out with a wimper)
Six Feet Under, "Everyone's Waiting" - August 21, 2005, after five seasons (you can't take a picture of this, it's already gone) - 10/10 (easily the greatest series ender of all time)

Now Estephan God is calling me a simple, puny man. I guess I should be quaking in my boots at one extreme and rolling my eyes at the other. I'm at the other.
Sometimes this place and some of the people in it can be very tiring. Like right about now.

My first internet account was CompuServe, in 1986. $14 a month, plus usage fees according to bandwidth. 300 baud dialup modem. I had an IBM PC XT 286 with a 287 math co-processor, a VGA CRT, both 5.25" and 3.5" floppy drives and a massive 40 MB hard drive. It set me back $3,500. I was the envy of the neighborhood.

Time to stop obsessing

i think i may have reached another crossroads.

the most tolerant woman in the world and i were discussing it last night.

i've seen my loss of faith like a relationship breakup, i've done the gut wrenching fear bit and i've been heavily invested in the anger and angst phase where i've sought out people who believed as strongly as i once did and challenged them (like an ex-lover calling up for a shouting match.
