You can spray it with wasp spray. It sprays farther and straighter than pepper spray, but is just as irritating.
First off you'll end up messing with the law if you use a pesticide for anything but what it's approved for on the label. If you spray a dog with wasp spray and the owner lodges a complaint against you then you will lose. From a practical standpoint there's a big difference between the two chemical compounds. Wasp spray is neither tested nor approved for use in self defense so there's no guarantee it will actually work anyway. Pepper spray has been tested, it does work and (unlike chemicals designed to kill things) it has no permanent negative effects. If you use it on your own property against an aggressive animal you're well within your rights. Previous caveat applies.

I don't understand why you seem to think by helping your wife you have to remove God and faith...I don't see this as being the same as helping her to wake up to JW doctrine and control. I don't know how strong her personal faith is. But I would say that if it is, nothing you say about the WTS will affect her faith in god, just her faith in manmade religion....or maybe she might be a bit like my study lady...I dunno.

I would be happy to steer my wife into a more conventional Biblical belief system but I don't know that that is possible. The Watchtower does a very good job of proving that all other religions, in particular those of Christendom, are false. That is one of their most effective carrots. If someone comes to believe that only the Watchtower represents true Christianity and then three decades later discovers that the Watchtower is false, it doesn't leave a whole lot to fall back on. I wonder sometimes how many XJWs retained their faith in Jehovah and how many lost it entirely. 50/50, maybe?

You need to have balls to actually use pepper spray against an aggressive animal. It will work almost all the time, but sometimes the pepper spray only enrages them. Pepper spray incapacitates sight, smell and breathing. If you happen not to hit a charging animal square on you'll take out one or two of his senses. If you don't happen to hit him on the nose he'll still be able to smell where you are and still hear where you are even if he can't see you and even if he can't breathe. Most pitbulls are great dogs but some pitbulls are dangerous. If you use pepper spray, make absolutely sure you can deliver a solid hit. And then remember that you have not made yourself a friend of this particular pitbull. Your next encounter may not be him being afraid of you but him even more enraged. The only real solution is probably against the law.

so recently, i've had this urge to write to my father.
i couldn't quite pinpoint why i would try when i know he wouldn't read it and we aren't even that close.. over the years, before i left, my father and i could not relate to each other and we quit trying.
he was always so busy writting and preparing for talks.
Your father is the person he is. From your brief post it appears that he has traded one form of abusive lifestyle for another, but this time he has one he can feel good about because it is encouraged by others. Truth is any man who beats a woman is not a man, no loving father shuns his child and anyone who needs religion to provide his moral compass is at the core of himself morally bankrupt. Stop crying. He's not worth it.
