so i've been studying with jws since april 2011.
1 year later i decide to become an unbaptized publisher and take steps toward dedicating myself to jehovah.
i'm a single working mother of 2 with what i will call a very "colored" past.
My 1 piece of advice is:
Browse this site every day for 10 minutes, for around 3 months.
If you still feel you have any doubts about committing to the JWs after that, listen to what your gut tells you.
You will not be able to discuss candidly any nagging doubts with fellow witnesses once you become baptized.
it's nearly 2 months now but mrs punk finally left myself (mentally diseased apostate tm) with my 2 non kingdum hell attending boys.. she left when my jw daughter moved out and they moved in together.
i don't think it'll be long before my daughter gets sick of her mum but there you go!!.
i received a call from mrs punk to say: 'i didn't leave you because of the religion!'.
Soz to hear about this mate, I hope it all goes well for you. Your missus might actually be able to get stuff into perspective being on her own now. She might actually reflect on stuff. Glad the pressure is off you, aswell.
Thankfully, as your lads are in their teens, they will probably handle this okay.

okay, now it's my turn to start a thread about the gb/fds "new light" now that it's been well covered by many threads.
i've noticed that a few have brought this subject up with dub family who accepted wt "new light" without objection, saying that it "made sense" for the fds to only be the gb.
so i have an idea of how to bring this up with my family in such a way that will highlight that this doesn't make sense... at all.. and the timing of this whole thing is incredibly convenient for me since it wasn't that long ago that this came up with my parents and i said that the wt interpretation of the fds in matthew was out-of-context and flawed.
Your first point about Pentecost and the spirit will probably rattle the most bones. I'm trying to put myself of 15 years ago (when I was strong in the ways of the force) in the chair at a meeting when this one is revealed. Even I would have been able to pick the holes out of that one. My reaction would probably be 'what are they thinking?' and 'somebody is manipulating their own position'. Older folks are used to remembering the ancient partakers from years ago with quiet awe and reverence. Taking away their special badge at this time might jar some JWs minds. After all, they were super holy, right?
when you left, did you feel the need to start your life over?
how did you go about reconciling who you were with how you feel now?.
better yet, for those born/raised in, how did that transition affect you and are you ok with who you used to be?.

You just described how I feel/felt growing up as a Dub. For me the transition took a while, and I can't honestly say I'm okay with things. I am deeply ashamed of the person I was, and the (ugh) new personality that I had.
A friend of mine suggested to me that the fact that I was in a cult means that I must have a very weak mind. While I can squirm over that 'til the cows come home, I like to be reminded of the people that I know that are still 'in', but who have very strong personalities. The very fact that we are here and prepared to discuss what dumbasses we were suggests that we have more strength and moral fibre than we give ourselves credit.
if anybody ever read the two babylons book, it detailed how christianity became corrupt.
how over time, not on the spot, but slowly changes were implemented, it started with forbidding anybody to read or hold the bible, and only the leader/pope etc could teach, once there was full absolute power, then satan was able to put in anything he wanted to corrupt it all.
i am not going to list the articles and scriptures, everybody can find those, i'm just going to quickly show from the history to now how it's happened and the proof and what is happening now.

now that the "faithful & discreet slave class" has become essentially the governing body since 1919, almost every publication is obsolete and useless!
(i know, they are useless)..... the fds doctrine is a core teaching unique to jehovah's witnesses and now i believe they will have to change all of their understandings that are recorded in the revelation climax book, ezekiel books---every prophetic book written by the society!.
Elephant, doesn't it alarm you in just the tiniest way that jehovah is playing Chinese Whispers with the Governing Body/FDS? Charles Darwin himself would be mightily impressed with the way the Watchtower's doctrine has evolved over the past 100 years. If Jehovah INTENTIONALLY wanted to make 'his' organization look a bunch of clueless chumps, then I believe he would proceed in exactly the way the Watchtower Corporation has done up 'til now. Are the GB faithful and Deceit Slave getting crossed-lines from up there in the Pleiades? Does Jesus, our mediator have a s-s-stammer? A lisp? are the communications being hacked by Satan the Devil?
The Watchtower's record so far regarding doctrine consistency is piss-poor.
Personally, I think jehovah is having a Larf.... at your expense.

pope innocent viii transfused a canard.
today i added a new article to my blog addressing another gross misrepresentation about the history of blood transfusion.
since 1945 the watchtower organization has taught that pope innocent viii received a blood transfusion in the year 1492. it turns out this is another stellar example of watchtowers utter inability to get its facts straight when it comes to the subject of blood and blood transfusion.
