  i am against the use of the term "pedophile" as it is used within the ex-jw community.

  the definition of pedophilia by merriam-webster is:.

  sexual perversion in which children are the preferred sexual object .

  Interesting post. I'm guilty of lumping them all together. I've had a LOT of experience with this kind of thing, although never being abused myself. Many of my friends have been. You make an interesting point about fathers who just reach for the nearest, most convenient outlet. My friends were all raped by their fathers/mothers/uncles. I always end up using the word predator when I discuss the subject with anyone. I suppose the urge is the same as rape...just being in control, the feeling of power. By your definition I would say definitely 4 of the 5 people I know in the WT religion were raped by Pedophiles, in that the offender either had access to sex within marriage but preferred a pre-teen, or the abuse was man-on-boy when the man was married, and the abuse lasted a while. At least one was attacked by a known person on the sex offenders' register. Interestingly, two of the offenders were JWs, one of whom is still a serving elder and has never been brought to book for his crime either by a judicial committee, or by prison sentence.

  In some cases, where the children have been so-called 'jail-bait', maybe fully developed at the age of 14-16, it's definitely a grey area whether the offender is a pedophile. Anybody who touches a pree-teen needs their head examining. (by means of autopsy after they've been fried in the chair.)

  Does anybody know of any elders going out in a 'blaze of glory'? Has any elder just thought 'screw it!' and gone on the platform when he's got a talk, and just given a frank admission that it's all lies, then said, 'laters, losers!' and walked out? If I was an elder and had a part on the DC or CA, I would find it way too tempting to do just that. The opportunity for collateral damage would be huge.

  I love Richard Dawkins. Some of his shows on BBC Horizon were great. So interesting from the p.o.v. of a biologist.

  If any of you chaps like atheist progs, there's a good one available on the torrent sites called 'a rough history of disbelief', and a spin-off from that called 'the atheism tapes'. Short interviews with Colin Mcginn, Steven Weinberg, Daniel Dennett, Arthur Miller, Denys Turner and the almighty himself, Richard Dawkins. They are all asked about how they became atheists from their earliest memories/feelings etc.

  You could maybe say that you were messing around and winding some gays up on the site. Say you've done it before, and you thought it was funny. Maybe say that you chat to them, gain their confidence, then make dates with them and don't turn up, coz it's funny. Maybe say you got a guy to fly 200 miles to meet you and you didn't turn up...you're sorry etc.

  They probably might not buy that, or any other excuse. Hard to say.

  The other alternative is to look at some nasty hetero porn, leave the drive not cleared, and confess you've been looking at porn. They'll see the chicks, you might get a reprieve...maybe out of relief. Depends how good an actor you are, and what they've already decided to do to you.

  I think I recently read AllTimeJeff's story, I think it was him. His brother was a JW, got kicked out and tragically ended up committing suicide. As long as everybody gets out at a time that suits them, (assuming they don't get booted first), I think it's usually the right decision. Making rash decisions usually aren't the best ones. I'm not sure elders are much different to regular Dubs, or should be singled out. After all, all JWs go in the ministry and take the risk they might snag somebody into this awful cult. Staying in and influencing people already under the spell, I think is another matter. I know when I realised it was all a pile of crap, my ministry took another angle. I didn't leave mags with people and talked boring gibberish to householders. It worked a treat. Now that's damage limitation! The elders on here know the deal, they're probably having to hold back the puke during meetings. It can't be fun for them.

  leaving 'apostate' stuff around on the PC for the kids to see???

  my kids come to visit each second weekend.. if they look at my files they could easy find my massive file on jw's (and i hope they have).

  i have recently thought of leaving as a screensaver during the visits something like an old wt cover (say, the 1914 one) or a big ''jwfacts.com" accross it.

  or perhaps some wt quote to get them thinking...or asking questions.

  Maybe you could take all your regular folder stuff off the desktop and put it all in a folder marrked 'stuff'. Then have a folder called 'Watchtower false promises' or whatever. The thing is, if you make the desktop picture blank, and have very little in the way of folders, your decoy folder will stand out more. The fact that you have it tucked all away in a folder will make them want to see it more, like you're trying to hide it, or that you're being discrete. Your sub folders could just read '1975 prediction' '1925 failed prophecy' etc. I would just fill 'em with jpegs, no text documents. It'll just whet their appettite.

  Bottleofwater, Welcome! I've known some gay people in my time, and some while I grew up who were confused about what they wanted out of life/what they were gonna do about it. If you try to stay in the WT$ for whatever reason, you will regret it somewhere down the line. Even (worldly) parents give their kids a hard time about their sexuality, WT$ will be even worse. WT$ will make you hate yourself, plain and simple. I know people that were in the WT religion that were lesbian, and they took their life back when they walked out. It really is up to you how you deal with it. If you allow the 2 elders to talk to you, they will make it go their way. Nobody says you have to see them. It'll probably just piss you off when you hear what they have to say to you. If somebody told me I couldn't practise heterosexuality, I'd be bloody livid.

  They are trying to foist a bronze-age religious view on you and your life. Use your power of choice.
