Must have missed it, found sheep! I love the diverse group of "survivors" on here. Subjects can be thought provoking, entertaining, healing and heartbreaking.

The Man with Golden Voice
by tenyearsafter innot that it is particularly pertinent to anything, did anyone catch the today show yesterday featuring ted williams (the man with the golden voice) where he was reunited with his 90 year old mother?
seems ted was raised in a very religious household with a jw dad, and mom couldn't understand how ted could have grown up to be such a huge disappointment to the family.
it just seemed an odd thing to bring up during a "poignant" reunion..

I felt the same way as I watched the interview. It was SO painful and the mom was SO negative that I had to turn the channel. Not that I don't blame her for feeling that way. I am sure that she has seen his success in the past and watched him make the same mistakes over and over again. She even went so far as to say that she was ashamed of the sign that he wrote, that ultimately got him this national attention and the opportunity to re-create his life.
I wish him much success! Everyone deserves second, third, fourth and so on chances to get it right at life.

Did You Ever Fink On Another Witness?
by minimus indid you ever tell the elders that you knew of "wrongdoing" or that you knew a certain person wasn't adhering to the rules?.
-

Yes, when I was about 18 I talked to a brother about my cousin who had moved out and was smoking. The brother acted like it was no big deal and basically told me to mind my own business. So, needless to say I never "finked" on anyone again.
A year ago when the elders called all who were involved with the bowling event, they were asking if we felt like anyone was drunk that night or if we noticed any conduct that was unchristian. My DH and I quoted a WT that said it was NOT our place to say whether someone was drunk or not as it was not our place to judge. Others in the group were read a scripture that stated they would be held accountable for their brothers actions if they did not come forth with the truth. That was how many in the group were coerced into saying whether they felt someone was drunk. One sister said that she felt someone was drunk cuz they were giggling too much that night.

KH's being sold.....multiple congs. meeting in one hall. Any ideas why?
by confuzzled777 inin talking with my mom the other day and we started talking about the #of congs.
that are meeting in the hall that i went to.
she goes to a double hall where 10 congregations attend.

thanks for the food for thought!.....i am in the us.......in the past it has been common for 2 cong. to meet at the same hall, but not 4 or more. My mom's double hall, i mentioned had 10 different congs. 8 (not 4) english and 2 foreign. So I guess this is not the norm for us here. Does make sense though that they would be able to cut down on expenses by sharing with multiple congs. The KH that I attended did have an apartment in it for the CO to stay in.

Front Load Washers. Are they good?
by Iamallcool ini have been thinking about getting front load washer for my home, but i have not decided which brand, etc to get.
any recommendations?.

I believe that you have to run a system clean with ALL front loaders, from what I hear. SO, not unique to my brand.

I have an Electrolux and like it.
My only complaint is that you NEED to use bleach in it to "clean" it out once in a while. Mine actually tells me when it is time for a system clean. I learned from experience that if you ingore the system clean your washing machine will start to smell when you run it and it will also make your clothes smell. When that happened a couple of times, I realized that it was NOT a good idea to skip it. I had to run the system clean with NO clothes in it, then run it again WITH clothes in it and add vinegar to the wash to get out the smell.
Otherwise I love everything else about it!

welcome to the board.....Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience. I was df'd 1 year ago this month, but will start working on reinstatement beginning of next month, only to fade back out again. (long story!)
My first thought when you mention talking to your daughter about your decision is this......and I know that everyone is different........if my parents told me tomorrow that they were leaving the org. I would follow suit and never look back. I fully trust their judgement and know that if they had lost faith in the WTS, that there was a damn good reason for it.
I understand the concern that others have with your decision. Follow your gut.......usually that is the right thing to do.
just my 2 cents.......

If You KNEW ALL That Was Expected Of You Would You Have Joined The JWs?
by minimus insince i was in the born in the religion category, i was pretty much indoctrinated from babyhood.
but i wonder if there was a written contract available, how many would so "freely" join?
any opinions?.

Being a born in also, I cannot answer the question. BUT I think that many people are introduced into the org. at a vulnerable time in their life and find it a refreshing place to be.
From the outside looking in you see warm, friendly faces. It is only when you are in that you find those warm, friendly faces are only put on for the time that they are actually in the KH. They fade to cold judgemental faces once you get to know them. While there are a few genuine people that exist in the org. most only love you for the # of meetings that you attend or the # of hours that you put into the field service.

Input From "Worldly Friend"
by EmptyInside inthe first person i shared my doubts with about my faith, was my first "worldly" friend.
and he really takes being called worldly as a compliment.
