  Husband can sit in on wife's judicial committee meeting, but not other way around

  i cannot find it, i don't know what the actual thread was.

  i've checked back through the pages and done several searches, but don't know what the key words were, am coming up blank.

  When I was disfellowshipped, there was an "interview" that preceeded my judicial committee (same night). The elders asked me to leave the room while they talked to my husband and questioned him about the event in question. I was then asked back into the room where they began asking me about the event in question. My husband was NOT asked to leave while I was being questioned. This had NOTHING to do with our marriage, it was an "interivew" about an event where 20 of us were brought in and were asked questions regarding our behavior that night in addition to the others in our group...if there was any inapropriate behavior or excessive drinking. I was disfellowshipped for admitting to having admitted to being drunk on a number of occassions over the years. I was 39 at the time. I refused to take their councel regarding my drinking as they kept referring to me as a drunkard, which I am not nor was ever. I was disfellowshipped in January 2010 because of it. 3 other witnesses were disfellowshipped due to admitting to other wrong behavior, 6 were publicly reproved due to admitting to having been drunk either that night or on other occassions. They were not disfellowshipped because they had a repentant attitude. All but myself and my SIL have been reinstated and or given their priveledges back.

  I often thought it was odd that I could not sit in on my husband's questioning, but he was allowed during mine.

  before i dive into the actual write-up of this experience, let me put some things straight.. i have thought long and hard if i should write more about my experiences during the 10+ years at different branches.

  during these years i worked from financial department, service department, home office and different it assignments.

  as you can imagine one sees and hears and reads a lot of stuff going through different stations in different countries.

  Thank you for sharing...my heart is saddened for all that you have gone through. I am passing this on to my sis who is still "in", but has been fading out for a while. I look forward to hearing more from you as you are able to share...

  in fact barely a day goes by without my fix.. .

  it is a site of contradictions.. .

  I take what I need from this forum and that is much needed support from being disfellowshipped nearly 4 years ago. I give support when I can, but do not get involved in any of the religious debates as I am not sure of my own religious/non religious views. I am grateful for this forum...

  Starting to read Crisis of Conscience....

  after almost 2 years of being wrongfully disfellowshipped and over a year after finding this site....i am starting to read crisis of conscience.

  i will not lie....i am a bit nervous as to what information i will find in the book.

  i have a strong feeling that i will end up crying through most of it as i will start to see the truth about the "truth".

  Still in the beginning parts of it....need to find more time to sit down and read it. My favorite time to read is when the weather is a bit warmer outside and I can sit out back by my fire pit and snug under a blanket! Guess I need to turn the heat down in my house and turn my fireplace on and snug up under a blanket. Think the hubby and kids would mind? lol

  I told my DH that I was reading it....also talked to my dad about it. I am anxious to get to some of the parts that you all are talking about! Hey....maybe if I got off the computer I could read for a bit! Just might do that. Will check back later to update you all on my progress! thanks for checking in!!

  Just How Self-Centered Are JWs?

  i just received a brochure from a midwestern travel agency operated by jws that specialized in bethel tours.

  i found this excerpt, relating to one item on the itinerary, as visit toe the holoccaust museum in washington quite interesting: "the museum is dedicated to presenting the story of how more than 30,000 jehovah's witnesses were persecuted by the nazis.

  apparently the tour operators consider the slaugther of more than 6 million jews unworthy of mention!

  I am sure that I am going to get flamed for this.....BUT

  I have to say that this WAS a brochure that was presented specifically to JW's and a tour that is focused 100% on the JW faith. It is called advertising. They were targeting their audience (JW's) and appealing to the senses of those that would be going on this trip. When it comes to taking a trip to Bethel, most go to be spiritually strengthened. Of course the travel agency would want to focus on the fact that JW's that lost their lives because of standing up for what they believe in.

  I am not arguing the fact that JW's focus on what THEY have done for THEIR followers in times of need. That is one thing that has frustrated me for a long time. They pray for those in the faith to be helped, but fail to leave out the rest of those that were affected by what ever tragedy struck them. When a tornado struck Joplin, MO this last summer, the closing prayer focused on those were affected by this storm that were brothers in the faith. I remember talking to my hubby after meeting that day as I had a hard time with the fact that not one thing was mentioned about the thousands of others whose lives were affected by the storm. Just one more thing that has changed the way I view the organization.

  OH MY GOODNESS YES!! But it was not just ME specifically. It was a WHOLE group of witnesses that had gone bowling the night before Thanksgiving 2 years ago. Because of 1 person going to the elders about the over drinking and actions (apparently we were having a bit too much fun) that took place that night, 6 people were reproved and 4 (including myself) were disfellowshipped. My announcement came 2 weeks after the rest of them as I appealed the decision and lost : (

  Amazing how people you thought were friends would throw you under the bus to save their own ass. When my hubby and I were asked if we thought anyone was drunk that night, we told them that it was not our place to say because it is something that is subjective. If only our "friends" would have done the same. But NO they were guilted into naming the names of those they "thought" were drunk after being read a scripture stating that they would share in the sin of their brother if they knew of someone but were not saying anything.

  Any other "wrongdoing" by ME was confessed by ME as I tried to be a good JW and follow the rules.

  OH MY! Thank you ALL so much for your responses. I have goose bumps reading all that you have to say about your experiences in reading the book. I am reading the downloaded one and have it downloaded both on my computer and my iPad. I have recommended it to a family member and they are going to read it along with me. Then AFTER we have both read it....we will more than likely recommend it to another family member who has the same doubts that we do....it's just has he been in the "truth" for most of his 70+ years and not sure how to feel about his doubts.

  thanks again from the bottom of my heart for your kind responses! I will be digging in to the book in the next hour or so. Need to do dishes and bake some cookies first. : )

  After almost 2 years of being wrongfully disfellowshipped and over a year after finding this site....I am starting to read Crisis of Conscience. I will not lie....I am a bit nervous as to what information I will find in the book. I have a strong feeling that I will end up crying through most of it as I will start to see the truth about the "truth". Was this an emotional read for any of you? Or am I over thinking it as I do most things I start.

  I am a born-in and have had some doubts over the years as I have gotten older. After being wrongfully treated and then disfellowshipped almost 2 years ago, I started having MANY doubts about my faith and this religion.

  SO I am taking the plunge and reading this book. Just thought I would share!
