That is strange because the copyright said Watchtower and tract society but you are right the New World translation was published around the late 50's. But I noticed the word change from Cross to Stake. I am suprised nobody at the time said anything.

A Born ins challenge to develop a "post cult" personality.
by stuckinamovement ina born ins challenge to develop a post cult personality.. mentally leaving the organization can be traumatic for a number of reasons.
one of the biggest challenges for born-ins in finding their pre cult personality is that our entire personalities are based on the religion.
there is no such thing as a pre cult personality for us.

I was looking into two bibles by the Jw's. One was written in 1909 which was called the The Holy bible American standard Version. The Other obviously the New world translation. I looked up Matthew 27: verse 32 in the American version it says Cross in the NWT it says torture stake. I find that weird since they do not believe that Jesus died on a cross. So what changed about that belief, since it is in their own bible from 1909.

Nothing.
by Narkissos inperhaps this paradoxical "topic" is one with which we here have dealt a little more, or a little more consciously, than the average population.. we used to have our heads full of beliefs (which we called "truth") in every direction: on theology, on cosmology, on paleontology, on past history, on so-called prophetic future, on heaven above, on earth, on she'ol beneath.
on many things -- current events, traditions, other peoples' beliefs and behaviours -- we had strong opinions which were directly or indirectly (the famous "conscience" matters) part of the same deal.
and of course our life was filled with activities and relationships, a community of "friends," people to "help" or "teach," etc.. then, gradually or suddenly, we came to suspect, often with a measure of terror, that all of this was not what we had thought and might sooner or later turn into... nothing.. this "nothing" is perhaps one of the most scary thoughts to people contemplating leaving the org one way or another.

This is true we are nothing. We are a small speck of dust in this vast empty universe, but at the same time this is uplifting in the sense you can become whom you have always wanted to be.

Things in the past that show you that your doubts started earlier than you thought
by sabastious ini was just talking to my wife this morning about underlining or highlighting the wt paragraphs.. when i was 13 years old i would fight with my dad because i refused to highlight the answers.. the reason was because i wanted my comment to be genuine.
i felt that highlighting the "answer" made me lean on just using that as a crutch and not truly putting it in my own words.. i still hold that argument now, and i am 26. the only reason you would ever have to highlight something in a study book would be if you needed to remember it, maybe it is fairly complicated or subtle information that could be easily forgotten.. so many times in the wt the "question" has the same phrase that's in the paragraph!
it's literally like playing connect the dots.. so what i would do is not highlight during the family study.

The belief in being anointed I still could not understand that. I used to ask so many questions regarding that.

Why did you become one of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by Celestial inany other reason than the arbitrary explanation that you were brainwashed or seduced by a millenarianist doomsday cult?.

Socialization of JW Kids
by Mysterious inthrough the course of my university studies in social sciences there seems to be a repeated emphasis on early socialization shaping personality and having a drastic effect on the long term life of kids.
studies of extreme neglect are often the only ones cited, such as children locked in a closet for the early years of their lives with no human contact.
it's lead me to wonder about the long term effects of jw socialization on youths that are raised in the organization.
