I agree terry people use various means to dull their sense of perception and not try to deal with the current moment. I try my best with my issues up front and not use substance or defense mechanisms to do with them.

What does it take to break the ache?
by Terry inthe problem with reality is.
.it is too real.. reality stings.. reality is a headache.. a bit of fantasy and diversion is about all the aspirin you can take to deflect the throbbing ache of reality.. fantasy?
maybe "magic" is a better choice of words.. daydream when you're bored at work?.

NSA spying on Vatican! My JW parents are SOO EXCITED!
by BU2B init just came out yesterday that the nsa has spied on the vatican and pope francis.
when i went over my parents house yesterday, you could see the excitement, the energy in their eyes when they talked about it.
my dad even pumped his fist like he won something when he was talking about it.

Religion is used as a tool of control.Goverments would not want to cease that source of power by destroying it.

Categories of Former Jehovah's Witnesses
by neverendingjourney ini was never disfellowshipped, but it's been about 10 years since i was an active jw.
i've made an occasional meeting or half-day at an assembly here or there, strictly at the behest of family (maybe once a year), but i'm completely disconnected.
more importantly, mentally i'm 100% free.. we all have a tendency to project our views and beliefs onto others, and tending to believe that other former jws share our views is no different.

I am probably group 4 but I do not like to catagorize myself.Honestly I do not talk about my religion too much. I will mention it if someone did ask, I am slowly getting over the bitterness of the religion and have come to terms with it.This religion is not going anywhere.

A one sentence reply that could jolt a JW
by HBH inmy mind was wandering last night, and i though of this as a reply to a jw.. "oh, your the people who believe 8 men in brooklyn, ny are directing the world's only true religion.".
the sentence is a fact that they can't deny, but clearly shows delusion.
any other one sentence "stingers"?.

JWs and pessimism
by elisaporquien inthere are people who are pessimistic, optimistic, cynical or whatever.
i've noticed that ever since my sister became a jw she's become very pessimistic about life now (present time).
i love and care about her but her pessimism sometimes brings me down (emotionally).

If you mentioned good things they have a deer in headlights look.

What Was Your First Experience In Exposing Yourself To "Apostasy"?
by minimus inas a young teenager, i would look at "apostate" books at the city library.
i was always intrigued as to what was sooo bad and other than a few writings of some that seemed like they hated the witnesses, i would clandestinely look at literature, especially in "christian" bookstores.. it took years for me to finally disconnect.
i will say that ray franz' books enlightened me the most!.

I had typed Jw's onto youtube and was first scared. Then I looked u Jehovah witness on yahoo and got this site as the first result I first lurked in 2009 into 2010 and finally got an account in November 2010. As I read people's stories I felt angry and ashamed and I also looked at Jw facts. Then in November of 2010 I created an account.Since than I have been reading all of your great stories.
