I find it hard to invite someone in my home(to talk about spiritual matters) that I have not had a meal with or had some casual outings together without the mention of religion.

Call me paranoid, but its possible that this 30 hour initiative is a weeding out process....a cull if you will...
by miseryloveselders inwe've discussed a few potential reasons why the wt is promoting april 2011 as a month of special activity.
reasons include manipulating statistics, and trying to provide some kind of spark to increasingly apathetic and discouraged congregations.
i'm sure there are others i'm missing too, feel free to include those.

The WTBTS has lowered some invented measure of 'supposed service' to god,
and the (r and f) love them for it.

Not sure if this helps, and I am still trying to wrap my mind around what is being said. I am a fan of David Bohm. Here is an interview with one of Bohm's colleagues:

You ever go through extended moments where nothing satisfies you, to the point you wouldn't mind dying?
by miseryloveselders indon't get me wrong, this isn't a call for help or anything like that.
i'm not about to do anything stupid, just feeling a little down and exhausted tonight.
i feel defeated, even though i don't feel as if i'm battling anything.

Hypocrisy in latest Awake
by dozy inthe april 2011 awake (downloadable on jw.org) contains a watching the world article on the catholic paedophile abuse situation in ireland.. quite apart from the sheer hypocrisy in criticising other religions when the society has enough child abuse problems of their own , they make this statement "the abuse was ignored because of misguided loyalty to the absolute authority of the catholic church.
" this from an organisation that demands complete submission to their absolute authority.. i can't help think of barbara & joe anderson who were disfellowshipped because they refused to submit to the absolute authority of the governing body and spoke out against child abuse..

I have to conclude that the WTBTS is playing the game of mockery. They are a joke and they know it. But the joke is not on them, it is on those who listen to them and go to them for spiritual guidance.

In your hall, how many converted to a JW from door to door in the last 10 years?
by just n from bethel inin mine that would be a big fat zero.. there have been a handful of teenage baptisms of jw children.. one that really was a foreign language group transfer.. but in the last ten years - there has not been one single convert from the d2d ministry.. btw - my congregation has had over 10 pioneers (real ones that actually do d2d, including elders) for the last decade.. not one.
10 x 70 hours a month x 120 months = 84,000 hours ... results = 0.. also most of our pioneers are pretty good at the door - some half way decent teachers.
one is sub co and another often is called to teach ... wait for it ... pioneer school!!!.

I find that more people who speak English as a first language, are going to the Spanish Cong. for relief. I also, think that those who speak Spanish as their first language are more family-oriented and are less likely to ostracise their family members.

God as Imaginary Friend
by Lion Cask init has been postulated that belief in god is very much the same as a common childish belief in an imaginary friend.
richard dawkins devoted a few pages to the theme in his book, the god delusion.
his basic premise is that the gods worshipped by humankind, all 1600 or so of them, evolved from imagination to fill a gap in the psyche which leaving empty is just too frightening.

The idea of Santa or the tooth fairy drops, when you realize that it is your parents that are providing the gifts, but even with good parents god keeps on ticking.

Is there a biblical 1914?
by AiAi ini have noticed that people that hold no faith in the bible can easily find reasons not to believe it is god's word.
likewise, i have found that when one does hold faith in the bible they can continue to believe it against any contrary evidence.
the torah not being written by moses is not a big deal to some, neither are the two creation accounts in genises.

Healthy fear of a god needed in order to do good?
by unshackled inthis is from the latest april 15 watchtower (page 7).... .
how about being good just because it is the right thing to do?
morality based on fear of punishment and hope for reward is not morality at all.
