Did Jesus empty himself of all his knowledge when he came to Earth?
by garyneal ini learned in church this past sunday that jesus must have emptied himself of all of his knowledge when he came to earth.
this is based on luke 2:51, 52 where it states then he went down to nazareth with them and was obedient to them.
but his mother treasured all these things in her heart.

Nothing More To Say
by Farkel ini really have nothing much more to say, except to say thank you to all the people who have contributed to me in my threads and all the people whom i battled over the years.
the battles have been most entertaining and enlightening.
i've learned a great deal from them, and i've laughed a great deal from the idiotic attempts of fools to make a coherent argument (think "dubs").. it's been a roller-coaster ride for me over a decade and it has consumed a huge amount of my time.

Atheism 2.0
by Qcmbr inapologies if this has been posted before or even discussed.. this ted talk gets at the heart of what atheism is missing and my wife an di discussed this for a long time last night.
in short religion provides a framework for meeting, for ritual, for art, education and sociality.
without this framework atheism can seem lonely harsh and certainly disorganised (the general idea that education and culture can replace the gap may well be true but without a formal structure the route to personal mental fulfillment is somewhat piecemeal and patchwork.

Sab: How you can you "not have belief" and not be an atheist? Agnosticism is the admission that all beliefs could be real, but cannot be proven without further science.
........................
How do you go about finding out what is "real" without the influence of culture?
Belief in not a requirement for things to operate at a high-level, I would say that our bodies function at a higher intelligence then our minds,(none of it requiring belief)

N.Drew: So even a man who is trying to put off sin thus imagines himself spiritual, might be fleshly because he is doing it for himself.
................
To bring in JC and belief, is to evoke a slippery slope of complexity,...

Will strict observance of the scientific method in ones life always lead to atheism or intellectual dishonesty?
.........................................................
I don't follow the scientific method as if, it is the "ten commandments" nor am I an atheist, so I could not tell you.
insert: I do not have belief, but I still get the same feelings of awe, however, now it is more raw and intense.

From Sab: In your opinion does science lead to atheism?
.........................................................................................................
Snake oil salemen used "supposed science" to sell their product. Before the industrial age, those on ships used landmarks and the stars etc... to help them navigate.
I guess what I am getting at is, I don't know what you mean by science.
Science to a snake oil salemen = sell product
Science to a sailor = to know where he is

I have no idea what being religious, having a belief in god, and being spiritual, mean. To answer the question:
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know

I agree with Terry that atheism is just an overinflated opinion.
..........................................................
This statement is wrong on so many levels,...but I'm sure the person who made this statement was looking in the mirror while typing.
