It's tough to follow the money, with so much financial secrecy.

What is the WT's Motivation? Who Benefits?
by InterestedOne inanother thing my jw friend says to me when i question the wt is, "what would their motivation be?
they're so humble and no-one gets paid except a basic living allowance for the workers at bethel.
they're not like those other rotten 'ministries' whose leaders get paid a lot of money, etc.".

What % of current JWs sincerely believe Armageddon will come within the next 30 years?
by jj123jj123 injust to give you a little background about myself, i was a born-in, i'm in my late 20's now, i faded away a few years ago after researching the history of the wtbs on the internet.
my fade was aided by moving away with my job(i definately feel lucky about that).
eventually, i had discussions with a couple of my closer jw friends about why i no longer believed in the wtbs.

Cult...Cult...Cult...Cult!
by Cold Steel init seems that many people on this board get a certain amount of glee calling the jehovah's witness faith a "cult.
" especially former jehovah's witnesses.
and though it's true in a number of senses, we must be conscious of the fact that the early christians were considered by nearly everyone in roman and jewish society as a cult.

I think their is a distinct difference between the 'The Christ of the Apostles' and the 'Christ of Paul'.
The Christ of Paul is a cult.
The 'Christ of the Apostle' was still very much Jewish.
Unfortunately most people know the 'Christ of Paul', and it sucks that he makes of 50 of the NT.
Paul and Luke writings should not be considered as part of the bible.

With the latest Australian Special Talk, we now have a complete picture of the Organizational Plan
by WingCommander inper this australian talk, found here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/203281/1/latest-special-talk-in-australia id say we have now seen the future........ ah yes........the governing body is now starting to show their hand, to begin to show their future plans for this false-religion-cult of fear and oppression.
it has been said on here for the last few years now, that with the elimination/combination of the book study at the kingdom halls instead of at homes, the introduction of new rule books (keep yourself in god's love) and the new elder manual that a "tightening of the reigns" was beginning.
and so, just as the members of jwd and the internet have written, so it shall be done by the governing body overlords.

I can imagine the scenario now, some poor family with an 18-year old child who is smart, decides they will go to college. They enter college and stop their door-to-door activities. The Elders find out, label the student as "bad association" in the congregation, then start putting the pressure on the parents and family to label and treat them as if the student has actively and deliberately disassociated themselves. So, let the shunning begin!!!
This isn't a stretch at all.
>>>>>>>>
This has always been the case..... now, they will make it a extreme point of concentration.

Latest Special Talk in Australia
by jwfacts inno, i don't mean the visit by oprah.. there was a special talk on sunday relayed to all the aussie congs from sydney.
apparently the speaker had an american accent, but was stationed in a latin american country.
he was really pushing field service and pulled out the old one that: if you do not witness you are not one of jehovah's witnesses.

How many ways can you count time? -----Perhaps if they create a new rule that states:
Time in the Ministry can ONLY be recorded when
-You are knocking on doors, and have a second person there to witness it.(otherwise it's just hearsay)

when is it too late to learn the truth about the troof
by diamondiiz inwts suckers in many young people who are still naive and trusting and they also sucker in people who are going through some sort of a crisis in their lives.
but they also prey on old people.
those who preach no doubt are sincere and believe what they're doing is life saving and all that... but to turn things around, how many here would tell an elderly jw that their religion is a con?

Weak JW Commits Suicide, Elders Reluctantly Have a Memorial at the Kingdom Hall
by OnTheWayOut inso my mother calls me on thanksgiving thursday and tells me about a fellow in her kh that i knew quite well.
he grew a beard years ago and stopped field recruiting, but kept going to the kh several times a month as his wife was still active.
the elders never really tried to show concern for his depression, but always bugged him about the beard.

These are good people
by Retrovirus inin my introductory post i told about the jws that have been visiting me at my sil's request.
at first i spoke with them for her sake, then found i liked them anyway.
what i didn't like was the literature, especially the stuff trying to disprove evolution.

Contradictions, should we really care?
by garyneal ini'm not sure if the title is appropriate but i figured i'd point out some contradictions i see in jehovah's witnesses like my wife and i often ask myself why should i care when obviously she does not?
the motivation to 'fit in' with the people who you believe 'have the truth' is a strong one and facts are rendered powerless since in the end i get asked, "so what do you have that is better?
" but like morpheous on the movie, the matrix, all i have to offer is the truth.. .
