I do wonder though if jehovahs witnesses fall into a grey area regarding the requiremment of CRB checks and licensing in Australia as they do here in Britain. Jehovahs witnesses are keen to explain that none of their activities formally involve children. The JW argument is that parents supervise and are responsible for their children at all times. When I finish my exams I want to write to our MPs about any loopholes that there may be in our laws (theseare in the process of being developed).

So I'd like to read the fine print of the 2005 australian/victoria act to ascertain which kinds of group/activities are legislated as requiring to comply with this law - then I'd like to see how the Australian law is different from what we are doing here.

these are some things i have been thinking about .

.. when i first found this site i registered immediately ... never was a "lurker" ... and i've been here about six months.. everyone was very warm welcoming and i felt at home very quickly ... very pleasant at the time, but as time has progressed i look back and feel a bit "love-bombed" ... much like a religion i used to belong to.. i have found that this site is a bit "cliquey" ... groups of posters frequent at similar times and enjoy their familiarity with each other and that's great ... but they also sometimes exhibit a coolness toward those outside their clique ... almost as if your 'post count' is the first thing by which you are "judged" ... much like a religion i used to belong to.

some posters develop a personal dislike for others and not only jump on their threads but even deliver the odd "slap" on unrelated threads to increase the discomfort for the object of their dislike ... not unlike a religion i once belonged to.. some posters even follow others around the board looking to counter or use snide or clever put downs at every opportunity ... a kind of intellectual "rivalry" that was common to those in that religion i used to belong to.. many posters like to use 'in-house' jargon and labels eg; "newbies" for those recently joined.

when i was a kid back in the late 50's / early 60's (yes, i am very old, now let's move on) there was a television program that capitalised on the lives of miserable women.

it was my mom's favourie.

each day monday to friday there would be four women on the show, each with a sad story to tell.

this place has become far to jw ish for my liking.. free expression and rights to make reply are shut down by those who hold the key.. this forum is turning into an uber christian outreach program with those who take umbridge to them getting locked and deleted threads.

it would perhaps not be so bad if the moderators actually communicated to people such as myself rather than cold cutting.

they complain when we make a public outcry and tell us it belongs in a private message, yet cannot see 'the straw in their own eye' and do not use the private messages to communicate why they have done what they do.

imo some of the athesits on here are way more kooky than any christian. I often have think whaaaaaat - particularly at nickolas and Terry

don't leave on account of Shelby - speaking as an atheist, I too have come to view her as an intelligent and sensitive poet. She is right on the money in her argumentation and is humble enough to admit when she is wrong. I took umbrage at her in the past because, in doing my big sis act, I thought she was misleading the newbies - I have since found that the newbies can and do think for themselves. No need for big sisters to get all fluffed up. (My apologies to(((Shelby))).

As to Shelby's language - all the great auditory poets repeated themselves - this is a memory aid and an aid to divine inspiration.

while i highly recommend the exchange of ideas and the informative camaraderie found on this board to anyone leaving the confines of the watchtower, i see an unhealthy pattern developing in me that tells me i should take leave, at least for now.. it's enjoyable and practically everyone is gracious, except for a few, and it does feel good to stretch the ole "thinker" in a bit of debate or even in-depth discussion.. but i sense in myself both a desire to "prove" myself linked to my past ego of yesteryear jehovah's witnesses proselytizing conflicting with my current understanding of why i left that type of religion behind.. unique among discussion boards.

very few discussion boards have an audience that understand terms like "qumran 4" or "masada" or .

"proto-masoretic," or at least has the capacity to look it up and come with a comprehension of its usage.

Does the Christian message fall apart without a literal interpretation of Genesis?

well the the way I see it and taking an atheistic stance (I do like using this handle ) Jesus is not depicted as an otherworldly individual in the gospel accounts. He is depicted as an individual who worked hard to alleviate spritiual and physical suffering. He put himself in the thick of human life and urged his followers to do so too. He is portrayed as enjoying nature (check parts of the sermon on the mount), good food, good wine (the miracle of turning water into fine wine) and fine clothing (the one piece garment that romans cast lots over). He took delight in people and expressed intense emotion when the need arose as when his friend Lazarus died and when he drove the money changers out of the temple.

I think it would be more accurate to say that some of Paul's theology falls apart without a literal interpretation of Genesis but this does not apply to all of chrisitianity and certainly not to Jesus' teachings.
