  I don't think Steve Unthank has a case because jehovahs witnesses do not engage in specific child related work according to the Act. they don't have separate sunday schools. Wherever children take part in religious activities adults are not excluded - the activitities apply to adults and children. If this goes to court Jehovahs witness lawyers will be able to refute his claims very successfully imo.

  the theocratic ministry school does not exclude adults - this is not a child only school - so the Act would not apply here.

  likewise the ministry, meetings, mentoring schemes. The Australia act is very similar to what we have here in the UK. What I have read at least is the same. I would be interested to know why many here who have read the act are so convinced that Jehovahs witnesses are contravening the Act as to me they don't even fall into a grey area?

  thanks for your thoughts inquiryman and it is very sad that this event is affecting the whole nation in such an intimate way in that everyone will personally know someone who died. This was a very carefully planned and executed crime but played out for all the world to see it will have the opposite affect to that intended by the perpetrator. This particular type of hatred is very shortsighted.

  I was also very relieved that the crime was not committed by non-white muslims

  yes I also have come to realise that there is a huge outer element to depression and it my be possible to explore changing your environment and association if you can. Fresh air, different people - it all helps.

  for me i know it was because i was a reader.. i began reading books at the age of 13, this was in the 1950's.

  because there were some serious family problems i had two escapes i could count on reading and associating with my friends at the kingdom hall.. as i devoured steinbeck, hemingway, wolf etc.

  my world view expanded....it had to.

  a friend of mine reacts very badly to medication and after about 6 months into whatever meds he has been prescribed he often has to go back to the doc for a change of medication. For him it is a trial and error thing at the moment. Medication is supposed to make one feel better and if it does not then perhaps under advice form your doc it needs adjusting/changing. I'm not sure if this applies to you but thought I'd mention it anyway just in case.

  it is so draining for me to constantly read threads by atheists that assert that those of who are uncertain or have faith have irrational minds.

  I hesitated to make a comment on this thread because I wasn't sure about the connection between the title "Atheist Fascism" and your opening post BOTR. Although perhaps it is my understanding of what fascism means that is defective.

  Other than that I have a lot of respect for believers and having been a faithful believer for many years am quite eager to test my new found ideas here on JWN. But lately I haven't felt the need to join atheistic discussions against believers feeling that I am past that stage.

  as jehovahs witnesses we were taught that the truth (belief) unifies every aspect of our lives and is of paramount importance.

  are other like religions like this also?

  do they emphasize belief to the same extent?.
