Marital Due and the KS
by yknot ini just did a 'quick' search and 'marital due' doesn't appear to have made the 'list' of issues addressed in the ks!.
did i miss something?????
shouldn't the blantant repeated refusal (not justifiable under illness, ability, or discernable reason) be an issue addressed?.

I've looked at Randy Watters article on freeminds. He makes it clear that Lifton wrote a book on Brainwashing and that the points from that book can be used to identify whether a goup is a destructive cult or not. THis is not plagiarism. Plagiarism is when the source material is not referenced. Randy Watters clearly tells us where he got his material and he tells us how he is going to use the material. Adapting the paragraph headings to suit his purposes is not plagiarism because he has already told us he is going to do this. Here is how Randy opens his essay
" Brainwashing has become almost a household word in the last two decades or so. In 1961, Robert J. Lifton wrote the definitive book on the subject, Thought Reform and the Psychology of Totalism, after studying the effects of mind control on American prisoners of war under the Communist Chinese. Lifton outlines eight major factors that can be used to identify whether a group is a destructive cult or not . Any authoritarian religion should be held up to the light in order to determine just how destructive their influence is on their members. Judge for yourselves. Try reading Understanding Mind Control Among Jehovah's Witnesses."

how do you expect your arguments to stand when you contradict yourself from one paragraph to the next. How can you accuse Watters of plagiarization when you admit that he does say where he got his information.
Do you really expect us to accept your very incorrect definition of plagiarization?

Change in membership rolls Norway
by InquiryMan inthe watchtower society in norway has voluntarily and on their own initiative reduced their membership rolls in order to fit to the world wide practice of witnesses when it comes to membership enrollment.. now, they only incluce baptized members, not children and non-baptized publishers in the number they report to the authorities.
as a registered faith community, jws, alike with all other registered religious and philosophical communities, receive support from the government.
that is calculated on basis of the number of members... in times past they included children, thus making the membership into some 15,000, whereas now they report just slightly above 11,000. the money paid is a sort of repayment of taxes paid by inhabitants, as norway has a state church.

I rather think that the initiative has come from the Norwegian government, in its drive towards secularistion, than from Jehovahs witnesses. Inquiry man is there any way of checking if this is so?
Are other faiths in Norway alllowed to report non baptized children as members? major christian faiths do baptize infants - so this practice would make children, who are baptized, members of the faith and so qualify them to be put on the roll, early in their lives. Jehovahs withesses cannot claim this privilige as they do not baptize infants.

Does anybody in London know anything about this???
by brizzzy ini'm a californian, but a good friend in london just texted me saying there's a blitz of about 50 jehovah's witnesses in croydon right outside of where she's eating loaded up with watchtowers and setting up a stall and a speaker with a megaphone.
she also says that some of them are women in wheelchairs and that they're rolling in front of passers by and blocking them when they try to ignore them.
she says all of the pedestrians are telling them to fuck off and leave them alone because they're not interested in a cult, haha.. is this something new that the society is encouraging over there (or even more scary, everywhere?

Keep Your Family, Follow Ray Franz' Example. Think Smart!
by believingxjw ini feel terrible for those who have lost their families.
after reading coc, and after the shock of it, many of us hurried to leave and hurried to get our families out only to find ourselves on the outs with our loved ones.
but is that the best or only option?

I would ask skeeter how much easier it would have been for him if one of his parents did not believe in the Jehovahs witness doctrine but had stayed on to suppport him in his doubts and questions?
just look at our very own yknot

I agree with you believingxjw - I'm so glad you have aired this topic.
I know of so many mates who have stayed and who display all the qualities Moshe says are not displayed by those who stay on. These ones have had the courage to not only benefit their children but also themselves. Thye have also been true to themselves like hamlet.
