if the carrot and stick aspect of being jehovahs witnesses upset you how do you reclaim your desire for reward?
i'm assumng that you all agree with me that feeling rewarded is a basic human desire.
how much effort do you think we should put into trying to make our lives rewarding?

spoken from the heart all of you - I find your comments & pics very moving. Thank you so much. I feel like making a list and pasting it on my bulletin board, decorating it with celebratory colours.
Loud and clear I feel themes of liberation come through, to trust one's own ideas, the freedom to exercise choice, to decide what challenges you want to set yourselves and commit to, mental honesty, independence ...
WTS literature couches all these in derogatory terms and unconsciouly we are aware tht we are being taught to nulify our contributions to this world and the rewards that could accrue. We lose the leaders gain. Stop losing I tell myself

ok.... looking for some logical explainations.... my daughter, ali, who i've been posting about on the forum...who has developed congestive heart failure.... has had some spooky experiences lately in her house.
here are a few of the things that happened:.
about a month ago, ali and her son david, heard noises from the attic above ali's bedroom...that sounded like something was being dragged across the attic floor.
coffee black, how can you be sure the landlord has not given a key to someone else to keep an eye on his property and also now wants his property back? (I haven't read alll of this thread and apologise if this question has already been raised)
if the watchtower discourages the study of biblical languages, then why did they publish twice, in 1969 and 1985. the kingdom interlinear translation of the greek scriptures?.
would this not actually encourage the study of the greek language?.
Fred Franz I think is the one credited with the translation. I was prepared to assign a fair degree of innocence to him and to his endeavours thinking that he was as much a victim as any Jehovahs witness. But I am not so sure any more. I understand that he did gain somewhat of an education - an arts degree. This isn't much but it is enough for me to think that he and the JW leaders of his day did understand that they were manipulating the flock for personal gain.

many become and remain witnesses because of the hope of living in a paradise earth.
for those who have left how did you cope with the loss of this hope?
or do you still have this hope?.
BROTHERDAN
The problem is that JWs focus on their "reward" instead of knowing God and loving Him. They take John 17:3 and try to take in "knowledge" so that they can get their reward. It's a very selfish way to live. I hope to be wherever my Lord and Savior is. Whether the end result is in heaven or on earth, I hope to serve Him now as I will then. |
your point regarding JWs focusing solely and selfishly on the reward is so not the case. I'm not sure I know your history. were you ever a jw?
Most Jehovahs witnessess love God in the same way you describe loving God.
You have also raised an important issue for me. I think it is quite basic to want and desire reward. How does one reclaim one's desire for reward after seeing this aspect sabotaged by the Jehovahs witness teachings described by some of you in this thread. New chapter seems to have freed herself. My path is similar to hers. Rewards are very important to me - brotherdan would you class this as a selfish way to live. Or am I misunderstanding you?

If there exists something like paradise, it is going to be in heaven, it even seems more logic to me, with less practical problems. |
I like what you have to say because the idea of heaven presents vast opportunities and rewards
darth,
I never had love for Jay Hoover. I did FS because of my hope for Paradise and eternal life. When I realized that the Bible is a scam and that all religions are hoaxes, I left. My hope is to live 80 years. I know I will die and never be ressurected again. No one ever turns back from the dead. Not even Jesus. |
thanks for your honest response.

I struggle with it. I admittedly do not know what to believe. |
if it helps - I don't have a solid set of beliefs either. But congratulations on finding comfort in believing in God and Christ after the WT
