Sungdong Shipbuilding - A South Korean Company. This is a PR film, but I think it illustrates what's happening in Asia.

Is North Korea Changing ?
by fulltimestudent inthere's a good chance that a process of change is occurring in nk, which i'll come back to, as first i'd like to briefly explain how korea became divided.. i've spent a lot of time this past calendar year on the history and development of korea, this last semester focussing on modern korea with all its sadness, commencing with the japanese takeover in 1905, and the full annexation and military occupation in 1910. .
many korean's (naturally) opposed the japanese occupation.
some actively fought the japanese as guerilla's in the mountains.

True enough, mp - but I've discovered in the past year that it is possible to know quite a lot. Its not quite like G.W. Bush and his propaganda team describe it. But then its not like the NK propaganda team describes it, either. So just go exploring.
I'd posted a lot of good stuff about NK on JWS - sad its all gone.

Googlemap lets us see quite a lot of North Korea. Use it when you get a photo story, as in this
First the north section of NK, sometimes you can see the contrast with China, zoom in and compare both sides of the border. Same with the Russian border. The Siberian wilderness shows clearly in contrast with China. So when you get the map up, move north until you come to the very northern border of North Korea, Russia will be at the top of the page, and China to the left. Click on the towns for their names, and on the left of the map there will be some image thumbs of images of the town/city/place. There are some really great images. Anyone want to compare how the reality contrasts with their expectations.
Ok. now for some piks. Leonid Petrov (my teacher) posted these on his FB page today.

Life in different Paradises
by fulltimestudent inwe all (i guess) once imagined our lives in yahweh's theocratic paradise.
quite possibly our visions often were quite different from that of others.
in another thread i've attempted to shed some light on the north korean paradise of the kim family, which because it is a common (shared) experience may be seen by ordinary north koreans as "normal.

We all (I guess) once imagined our lives in Yahweh's Theocratic Paradise. Quite possibly our visions often were quite different from that of others. In another thread I've attempted to shed some light on the North Korean Paradise of the Kim family, which because it is a common (shared) experience may be seen by ordinary north Koreans as "normal." And, many Budhhists may be putting their hopes in the western paradise of the Amitabha Buddha. The Revelation Paradise of Revelation ch. 21/22 is so similar to the Amitabha's Western Paradise that it is easy to imagine the author of Revelation plagiarising it.
In the west some of us have good lives that could be called paradisaical, though these days, the way some are forced to live is not paradisaical.

btw, Japan has a very large Communist Party, between 300,000 and 400,000 members
And then in the Capitalist paradise of the USA, some live like this:

But what led me to this medititation on life in Paradise, was re-discovering a Youtube post on life in the Socialist Paradise that is now almost forgotten, though on some web-sites one can find nostaligic memories of that life. Hope you find this video informative:

Early Christian Journeys to Paradise
by fulltimestudent inan email from biblical archeological review yessterday, contained a link to a discussion by james tabor on paul's journey to paradise.
tabor demonstrates that we can read paul's 'experience' against the background of his times, in which the phenomenon of 'heavenly journeys' was common.
his analysis helps us understand what was happening and why paul would cite his 'experience.'.

Thnx for posting Plato's story, jgnat. I must go back to the Republic, I've attempted it, but the political views expressed by Plato are (to me) bleak.
I find Aristotle's The Politics much more enticing to read. Aristotle and his students collected and analysed the constitutions of (about 160, if I recollect accurately) 160 states and cities, and comments on their advantages and disadvantages. Reading Aristotle, I realised we do not live under real democracies, but rather a form of oligarchies, in which two oligarchies, vie with each other, to persuade ill-informed voters that they can provide a better government. They seldom do!

Never seen any unattractive illustrations, but then Coca Cola and other mass advertisers only use 'attractive' people in their adverts. So the WT magazine follows Joe Rutherford's dictum - Advertise, Advertise, Advertise the King and the Kingdom! and be sure, that when you get into either the earthly or heavenly part of the kingdom - you too will be beautiful.

Who cares about their fairy stories, let them believe whatever silly stories that they want to believe. But there are (I suggest)- 2 things that they must change to be a civilised religion. (if there is such a thing?)
1. Adherents must be able to leave with dignity and without punitive action on the part of believers whose 'faith' seems to be challenged when other (former) believers come to appreciate that they have made a mistake in joining the religion.
2. They must genuinely adhere to the laws of the state, particularly in regard to crimes like child molestation, and not pretend that their imagined belief that they live under a 'higher' law, means that they can ignore the law of the state in which they live.
Maybe there are other things - but they're the two that I think cause the most problems.

Thnx for posting about the Plato reference, jgnat. If you can find the time you may like to post some more detail.
In regard to a greek concept of a finer future world, pls post on that also (if you have time). Hesiod in his long poem realting Gk concepts of origins, describes a 'loss of perfection,' in his Theogony, in which he relates a creation account, and loss of human nobility in series that the author of Daniel 2 and the dream image seems to have drawn on.
