Here is a pic of the thing I'm referring to. I've never seen this style anywhere else but a KH.

Is that podium thing unique to JW's? Do they build them?
by InterestedOne ini was wondering about that half-table/half-podium thing that jw's use on the platform.
is that unique to jw's & do they build them, like shakers had their own furniture?.

They are just standard wooden podiums, right?
I don't know. I've been to many lectures in college and lots of church services, and I had never seen a podium like the ones I see in the KH's until I started attending. It was one of the first things I noticed thinking, "hmm that's an interesting gadget with the wheel underneath, etc." Then I went to a few other KH's & saw it was the exact same design but with different wood colors. I was wondering if they all come from the same vendor, or if JW's design & build them.

You mentioned escaping. Philip K. Dick, the author of that book, was how I learned to escape through reading. I love reading anything by him.

jeckle - I meant to also welcome you. I saw your post on the thread where I asked for "Our Kingdom Ministry." I could sympathize with your feelings even though I was never a JW. I am currently checking them out because I am concerned for my friend who is in. I've been a little touchy lately about how the WT uses language. It's really been upsetting me - to the point of nausea. That's why I jumped on the phrase "it seems." I know you were just generalizing as you said in your OP. It would be interesting to see a scientific study on who is leaving the WT though.

jeckle - Your expression "it seems more are leaving lately" reminds me of the way the WT uses the expression "it seems" with no data to back it up. I would be interested to see a scientific study on the matter.

Reading "Chronology" in Insight books - Do JW's believe in fate?
by InterestedOne ini'm at the beginning of the "chronology" section of the insight books.
in the second paragraph, it says:.
we are assured that his purposes for the future are certain of execution at the predetermined time, right down to the day and hour designated.. does that mean jw's believe in fate or predestination?.
