i'm sure this book is familiar with some - it wasn't with me until i heard the author today on the radio - stephen dawking.. he was accepting questions on this book and his beliefs in general - he extols pure science and that live evolved from a "soup".
in response to a question on how to respond to people who believed in god (he doesn't - full stop) he stated that the existence of life had nothing to do with god and was produced from this "soup".. he said however he had no response or answer if he was challenged on where the "laws of physics" came from, because any deviation in these laws, no matter how slight, would result in no life.
therefore the laws of physics had to be "just so" to allow life from the "soup".. now that i've lost me on this:-), interested in any comments/observations on this?

Interesting guy - he won't accept a believe in ANYTHING unless accompanied by evidence. Ghosts, fairies, unicorns, god, the supernatural etc do not exist in his opinion.

you know when we used to go from house to house and we kept records etc of not at homes and what have you?
surely the general public would be concerned to know that so much personal information is taken and kept by the jw congregations.
anyone else with any views on this?
Wouldn't the UK Data Protection come into play here. For example you are allowed access (as I understand) to see not just computerised records held on you by any organisation, but now manual records.

(sorry - i don't mean you guys are all smoking piss heads) - i just think a weekend away from my high intensity self control would not be good.

Just returned from "mini" apostfest at CentreParcs. "Mini" indeed with Simon, Angharad + 2 boys and myself , my wife & daughter. I think a good time enjoyed, some alcohol consumed (no cigarettes touched however:-)), a swim in the dome (including rapids, down the water "tubes" with bruises and scratches to proove it!)
Nice to break the ice with exUKjw's and Simon & Angharad (sorry guys..) level headed people with fine family - he understands the technical stuff too!!!:-)

given how the org went after tobacco in the late sixties, resulting in it's total prohibition in the early seventies, based on the health communities claims of how bad it was destroying the body (a claim not disputed by me) and how they made it a disfellowshipping offense to smoke, chew or otherwise use tobacco, i wonder if they will now ban eating at mcdonalds?.
there is a group out there of health professionals (or claimed) that wish to heavily tax mcdonalds and other so called junk food places.
the taxes would be used to treat all the millions of people who are afflicted with the dreaded disease of obesity and to combat the rising costs of treating these poor misguided individuals that have been led astray, thinking they were getting healthy food at the loacl greasy pits.. will the elders start smelling everyone's breath upon entry to the kingdom halls for tell tale signs of mustard and pickles?

well, i was stunned.
many long-forgotten class-mates had my mind leaping back to the early 60s, particularly when they mentioned the weird nicknames that we had given to our teachers.. the french master, froggy fleuriot, mousy mclaughlan with his rats teeth, bummer burrell well, i will leave that one to your imagination.

'tis a small world - I've paid my fiver too and last week met three of my former schoolmates back in Newcastle. (I've also corresponded with @8 others too). I'd already let them know I was now an exjw and they confirmed (! - like I needed reminding), jw baiting was a fun extra for many at school! Whilst the school had assembly I and other zealous jw's (about 10 of us) conducted the day text....!!!
We also discovered we enjoyed drinking too... a boozy evening enjoyed by all, hic.
